When I pick my kids up from school it takes 20 fuckin minutes to get someone to open the door for me. Just fuckin lock all doors. As for students bringing shit in, Ill brainstorm that.

Not sure what this guy meant, but you guys know you can frame in a door so that it only opens from one side and only opens one direction (to make it extremely hard to kick in)

As long as there are still multiple one-way exits throughout the building this isn't a terrible idea. They can also do what my hospital did and make the fire exits able to be opened with a keycard for security, maintenance, and the local police if needed.

Schools definitely need to look into adding more fire exits though. Every ground floor room with windows should have a window that can pop out for a fire escape and everything else could have the same but with roll up metal fire escape ladders. The only problem with my idea though is it's not handicap accessible but it's better than not doing anything.

Whether they ban guns or not it's going to take decades before it becomes truly difficult to find and but a gun due to how many unregistered guns there are out there. I live in an area where a lot of people hunt and practically every one that owns guns has bought some from private sellers so they're entirely unregistered

Did you guys not go to schools that had doors that could be locked and only open from the inside?

Right after September 11th, our entire school district tightened their security. All exterior doors were locked, except for when changing classes, and they could only be opened from the inside. If you wanted in during a class you had to go through the front entrance, which opened directly into the main office.

The problem this raises is that not all school shooters are people from the outside, most shooters are students who would have no problem walking right in.

This. My school was the same way, once school hours started, you could only enter the school from the front door which went passed the security office and front desk. This works well to keep out attacks from non students, but doesn't help protect against students who want to hurt people unfortunately.

Of course talking about what he was actually saying isn't nearly as fun as strawmanning his argument

First off, fire risks

Second off, this just makes chokepoints and easy targets for a shooter or shooters.

Yeah its harder to police the door but 1,400 kids going to 12 exits is better than 14,000 barrelling towards one..
