Just got hired as an editor for a magazine full-time. I thought I was applying to edit grammar and stuff in articles but I'm editing the formatting itself (like how it appears on a page with the layout of the text, pictures, etc)
... I have twelve pages due next week since deadlines are Wednesdays.. It's a big magazine and I don't wanna fuck it up but I only know words and not advertising ... Copied to Clipboard!

Their fault for hiring you if you fuck up Not really. If the newbie doesnt know how to do his job and fucks up, costing the company money, theyre going to pin him as the scapegoat as fast as they can. This is why I recommend, again, for OP to talk to his a manager and try to get a transfer or change in job duties. Better than going in with zero training and experience and ducking up. ... I didn't say he wouldn't get fired if he screwed up. I just said that it would be their fault. It will cost them money and get them fired, but it's still their fault for their hiring process not weeding out someone who was unqualified. Right now he has a chance to prove himself and succeed in something he has no right to be involved it, and it may lead to a different career path in the future if he does well and likes what this is. They must have had no other applicants. It seems they would have asked more questions about past experience and wanted to see something you've done even if it was college work. If you are still interested in the job you need to be studying up on it. You might already have some of the skills required for it.

And here, ladies and gentlemen, is why you dont want to lie on your resume and know right off the bat what your job duties will entail. I donno, that's sound advice in theory but in reality I've missed out on plenty of jobs I'm qualified for because I was honest about my abilities and limitations. Meanwhile some jackass who's lying through their teeth walks in and talks themselves up to be the best of the best... so they get the job... only to be significantly worse than I would have been lol. But at that point most employers will keep them on and give them a chance, not immediately fire them and start the hiring process all over again. Basically, lying (or omitting certain info) during a job interview is actually quite beneficial, at least in my experience. I don't feel good about it or comfortable with it, but I'm flaunting the shit out of myself the next opportunity I get, because I sick of being passed over for some idiot who's either a liar, or so incompetent they don't know their own skillset. There's a lot of truth to the "fake it till you make it" motto. --- "If we can hit that bulls-eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate" ... Copied to Clipboard!
