Current Events > This guy keeps buying me expensive games I didn't ask for

He's basically my only friend at college, but we're not that close, we hung out at his place once and I help him with homework stuff fairly often.

A while ago he got me a >$100 Star Citizen package (a game that's still not released, I can't possibly run on my computer, and I have no interest in). He just got me the Little Witch Academia game which looks cute tbh but I think my graphics card sucks too much to run it.

It's not that I don't appreciate it, but I just feel kinda strange this guy is spending more on gifts for me than my parents or S/O would, but they're not things I want or can play? I can't help but feel like the money could go towards something more useful

Yeah I don't even think there's any of that going on (probably), he's a good friend and I do appreciate it. Guess I'm just confused by his gift choices/not used to having money spent on me

I buy my friends games all the time. When I love something, I want to share it but wouldn't expect someone else to pay for something they might end up not even liking.

i don't think so?? when he broke up with his GF he asked if i knew any single japanese girls/guys (lol) so i feel like that puts me in the safe zone. He has made a couple weird comments but i just chalk it up to his social ineptitude

Just try to not let him get the idea that there's some sort of romantic, emotional, etc possiblity if you can. This is a hard positition to be in if he's got that idea in his head.

Just tell him you're not comfortable with people buying you stuff like this. Lots of people feel this way.

I did try to say that after he bought the >$100 thing a while ago, but he wouldn't have any of it :/ I guess if it happens again I'll try to be more assertive

Yeah I hope that's not the case, i try to keep a safe distance and genuinely wouldn't want to hurt the guy

He sounds like the a very "Entitled" kid.

He needs to learn that he needs to work to Earn everything he's got and he's not automatically "Entitled" to anything.

just tell him that you can't play this stuff and he should instead buy you pc parts
