The irony is That 70's Show made a joke about that exact scene, about how the show wasn't worth watching after that, before eventually themselves also jumping the shark.

Heroes - maybe when the writer's strike cut season 2 prematurely. After that it just kinda sucked.

The Office - it was actually decent shortly after Michael left, but at some point they started turning Andy into a douchebag. I kinda stopped caring after that, although I kept watching until the end.

To me it's fitting that a dumpster best represents the downward spiral of the walking dead. Sure, it always had some flaws. But I was largely entertained and there were some fantastic episodes along the way. But then what could have been excellent story telling, turned into a bad joke. Imagine, the audience being totally surprised by Glenn's death. Every character death, someone else knew. If a major character died and everyone just slowly lost hope when he never returned... that's both tragic and realistic. Then when the Negan camera fake out happens, A. The audience hasn't already been bamboozled with lame tricks and B. The death is that much more of a surprise.

Instead Gimple's gotta Gimple everything up with low brow gimmicks
