im convinced that an overwhelming majority of non-tippers, just like standing-wipers, are trolling and don't actually exist.

They certainly exist, just ask any server.

If the server was doing their job, why would it matter whether or not they got tipped?

>_>

For the record. I tip. Generally well.

But from my time in food service it irked me how the servers would whine about a table not tipping when they still went home every night with about a hundred dollars in their pocket. Like, wow, two tables out of the 15 you served today didnt tip. Economic mobility is dead!

sure, some do.

but i suspect a lot of the "internet tough guys" on CE who act all hardcore about not tipping actually do it because they can't face the stigma

Why would I support an industry that fails at paying their workers a salary that they can live on?

by that rationale, you should avoid all industry that pays adults minimum wage, because that's not something they can live on.

If that's their reaction then all they're doing is proving why they don't deserve a tip in the first place. A tip should be a reward for providing excellent service, not a bribe to ensure that a waiter doesn't poison your food.

Without the tip system service would be much worse anyway. Tips are a huge incentive for servers to show up at peak times and be speedy when serving. Take the tips away and there will be people calling off left and right on Friday and Saturday nights and servers won't give a shit how fast you get your refills.

This is operating under the assumption that service jobs are in a vacuum and that employees that don't show up to work won't be fired and be replaced with servers that will, which is a pretty silly argument to even make.

Happens in fast food thousands of times a day.

Sounds like a pretty good reason to tip, tbh.

That way you're paying the worker and cutting the business you hate out of that transaction entirely.
