I liked it better than the first, and better than the Avengers movies. I think Guardians is basically Avengers where the teammates have more meaningful (if cheesy) relationships.

random thoughts:
- a lot of very cool moments, visually. groot intro scene, people floating in space, the unrelenting spaceship assault on gamora in the cave, yondu's arrow
- like i said above, the relationships between the characters really make this movie, even if there are some eye rolling cliches. the yondu/rocket thing was explained a little too plainly for the audience imo, but the others were done well. i particularly liked drax/mantis.
- lmao the hoff
- i still don't like chris pratt as an actor. he's just the same dude in parks and rec/jurassic world/guardians. which is fine, except the seams of his acting abilities start to show when he has to show actual emotion. (though I think the scene with his walkman was pretty good)
- ego was done really well for a character that had to be introduced and then killed in a single movie. but uh.... it seems like he should have been a way bigger threat than a single movie? he literally started destroying multiple worlds at the same time.
- so quill was like... the most powerful superhero for a quick minute, right? and now he's just a regular human after about 5 minutes of dbz powers?
- i don't really care about blue robo-chick, but i can't tell if it's because the character is boring or if it's because the actress can't act.
- hot damn yondu is badass. he's got the coolest weapon. I think he's the part of the film that elevates it beyond just another good MCU film.
- the scene where the one ravager starts shouting because the other ravager crews show up at the end actually got me a little emotional
- I did not understand a single word stalone said
- bradley cooper as Rocket is one of the best things about Guardians. drax is fantastic too.
- too much baby groot
- holy shit a whole bunch of Watchers
- was stan lee's line about being a fedex guy a reference to civil war? was he actually there as stan lee?
- oh look a zune

im really interested to see how the team interacts with the Avengers because they're legitimately unaware of the Avengers' existence and have been exposed to threats way bigger than Earth.

but first, thor 3 and black panther left on my backlog.

And he's also not entirely subject to the laws of time because he references his Civil War cameo but GotG2 is set in 2014, prior to Civil War.

Granted that's probably just an oversight but hey I like the idea of Time Lord Stan Lee.

Theoretically the more movies like Captain America and Captain Marvel we get, the more credibility this time-space jumping gains.

Right, but first you have to establish that he has the ability to move between eras in this current universe. Depending on how X-Men get introduced into the MCU, that may outright answer the question.

He made a Homecoming hate topic IIRC but I don't think it was him for GotG2.

I remember someone complaining that the Yondu/Quill relationship wasn't hinted at in the first movie which is like blatantly false but I can't remember if that was here or on the comics board.

vol. 1 was better imo. better music, better pacing (i feel like the first half of vol. 2 was nothing but jokes and they saved all the serious stuff for the second half), and better written humor (you know you're out of ideas when you can't come up with something better than a joke about drax's poop).

vol. 1 is one of my favorite MCU movies, though, so i'm not saying vol. 2 is bad.

Yondu is my favorite part of the movie though. The character is just so well done and his scene on the ship is just perfect and fun. You can really feel for his story the most I thought, since Michael Rooker is one hell of an actor and makes the most of all of his lines. I like the lines in particular "He may have been your father, but he weren't your daddy." and "I ain't never done the right thing in my life before, so let me have this."

I thought it was significantly worse than the first one, but still enjoyable.

It felt too much like "Starlord: The Movie" and the focus was taken off the side characters. Drax is a tragic, unintentionally funny character in the first one but in this movie he's solely there for jokes with zero development. Yondu's focus is almost solely the sake of "he's Quill's REAL daddy."

Like, it was fine and everything but it felt significantly less refreshing than the first film.

Yeah, everything having to do with Yondu is easily the best part of GotG2. This wasn't the case in GotG1 but he doesn't get nearly the same focus there. GotG2 is arguably more his story than anyone else's including Starlord's.

(It's why I'm not too worried about not having him around in GotG3.)

I wouldn't say it's bad but I did think it was mediocre by Marvel movie standards. Yondu (and Nebula to a lesser extent) basically carries the movie.

I think what's weird about it is how split people are on Vol 2. The movie is sort of all over the place and so are people's ratings of it. You don't generally see that with the other Marvel movies. There's Avengers 2 but that's more of a love/hate deal.

Thew Star-Lord/Ego plot is the center of the movie, sure, but the Yondu, Rocket, Nebula/Gamora plots, and a good helping of Mantis (and the quiet moments from Drax) are more than solid. The only one who gets zero development is Groot who... ,,,,......... ... oh.... oh god... He's... oh god....

Groot is Michelle Tanner. Rocket, Star-Lord, and Drax? Yondu? are his three daddies. Gamora is DJ. Nebula is Stephanie. Mantis is Kimmy Gibbler.
