It's more of a rhetorical question I suppose.

Been taking some new meds this year and I noticed I gained weight. I haven't checked my weight since like December or February but if I had to guess I probably gained a good 20 lbs.

Now I am already fat and this just makes it worse.

I'm just kind of shocked that medication could have made me gain that much weight. Probably even more. I eat the same as I did and since I have IBS I am on a very strict diet. I didn't get this fat when I used to eat fast food like 4 times a week last year.

Yes.

Steroids mess with your metabolism, I think.

SSRIs/psych meds and heart/blood pressure medication are notorious for this. The former is not really fully understood, but they absolutely brick your metabolism. I was on Cipralex for a short time (about six months) and I gained 20-30 pounds despite zero change in my diet or exercise habits. Went off and the weight came off too.

It's not gonna be the same for everyone, but a lot of people do experience significant weight gain with some of these that counting calories and working your ass off in the gym doesn't fix.

Yeah, I read certain medications slow down your metabolism.

Yeah, I take psych meds. But didn't know it caused a lot of weight gain. I don't even know if the reason I gained weight last year was from medication as well. Maybe (and a big maybe) it played a role but I do know for a fact that I wasn't eating very healthy last year and it is common for me to get fat when I don't take care of myself.

But this year with the supplemental meds I noticed this additional weight gain. I don't work out much (for other reasons) but I feel like I have given up or at least put my weight loss goals on hold. I'm very good at losing weight and have done it many times in the past. But right now I don't feel like I'll make much progress even if I tried eating even cleaner than before (hell, what I'm currently eating is extremely limiting as is).

Nothing in this world can 'make you gain weight'.

The only way to gain weight is to put more energy into your body than you need.
