People were predicting it was going to be huge 25 years ago, and it didn't happen then either.

I think it's probably settled into its niche in terms of popularity. It may not go into decline any time soon, but I don't necessarily think it's going to blossom into new, greater levels of influence.

If anything, the real problem might be that culture as a whole has been slowly getting more and more skittish about combat sports in general, which is always going to put a hard cap on how much UFC and MMA in general can grow.

yeah prob never bigger than baseball, baskeball etc........but maybe it can overtake hockey

Nah, it's boring. Its rules are designed to favor grappling and ground and pound, and I'm not interested in watching that stuff.
Also, I will never take seriously a "realistic combat sport" where it's a completely valid tactic to lower your head and charge at someone like a damned ram to take them down quickly, safe in the knowledge that the other guy can't just retaliate by punching/elbowing you in your unprotected back of the head/neck because strikes there are illegal.
I mean, it's fine to ban stuff for safety, but then you should have the ref force a separation when someone uses those rules to literally shield himself from counterattack.

There's other MMA feds with more of a focus on standing and striking, I'd prefer those any day.
