@PrestonStarry2

Play Pokemon X/Y and maybe you'll learn to appreciate some of the Gen 6 Pokemon even more and possibility discover new Pokemon that you like.

Gen 6 has the likes of Klefki, Aegislash, Goodra, and Greninja and, while those aren't in my top 10, three of them probably make my top 25. Gen 6 has a lot of good stuff.

Genwunners like Preston need to play later games. Well, skip S&M because Gen 7 sucks, but still. Preston would probably love any Gen 6 Pokemon if they were Gen 1 or Gen 2.

I would recommend skipping the original Sun/Moon and going straight to the superior Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, at least for those who haven't played Gen 7 yet. Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon fixes a major complaint that people had with the original Sun/Moon, wild Pokemon calling for help excessively.

I played the original Moon and hated it. The game treated me like I was a complete idiot who couldn't even think. There was no way to turn off the game telling you which move to use in battle, which prevented me from using any brain cells, and it pointed me directly toward every one of its ten thousand cutscenes one at a time. Like... I like waypoints and all, as long as you have to do shit to get there and figure out how. There was no "figuring out" anything here.

I want an actual game. That was not a game. I didn't have to think, I didn't really do anything myself, and it had zero fun value. S&M are by far the worst Pokemon games and it's not even remotely close.

I also disliked Sun. It made me wonder if I'd finally gotten sick of Pokemon but then later on I tried FireRed again and it was still fun so I definitely think S&M are just subpar.

We've been through this before. The thing that you are complaining about is something that almost no one else complained about. Most people who played the game clearly had an issue with wild Pokemon calling for help excessively, which was a bigger problem than the game telling you which moves are effective or not.

Actually, I found only one topic from another user who complained about the game telling you which moves are effective:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/187276-pokemon-sun/74440856

Unfortunately, you are in the extreme minority regarding this feature as most people had no issue with it.

I recently stomped through Blue with just a Blastoise and a Clefable and it was fun. It's not me - it's S&M just being bad.

XY were actually good. I spent a lot of time with the competitive game there. Those were the breath of fresh air due to the 3D models and moves. It really felt new again. S&M felt stale.

Why on earth is it a problem to have an OPTION to turn that handholding off? I prefer remembering type covfefe as part of the game. Like SHIFT/SET modes, there should be an option to turn it off. That's all I ask.

And yes, neverending SOS battles are also a massive problem, but if you can OHKO stuff, it's better. Which I did for the most part last time I tried to play farther. But yeah, I hate that mechanic, too. I don't have much of anything good to say about S&M, honestly.

I would certainly like to see an option to turn it off and would definitely play the game with it turned off. However, I don't see that option appearing in later games unless there's actually a decent number of people complaining about the lack of that option. So far, we've seen almost no one complaining about this feature (most people don't care about it).

I would agree that s+m were pretty disappointing. The story scenes were just a chore to get through and I didn't care much about the challenges as opposed to the gym battles. It's good that they at least tried something different but it was a swing and a miss for me.

I did like the setting and some cool mons were added, and I like the alolan versions of old pokemon. But the game was very hand holdy and no characters really stood out.
