I didn't bother to go to settings and try to find the update feature to outright remove it and stop it from constantly nagging me to update, I just close the window every time for the past year. But because this shitty laggy computer is shitty and laggy, I clicked the "ok" to download button and now it's even more awful than before. The only reason I still use firefox is because of the add-ons and because I need an alternative to chrome

Ah Chrome, eater of RAM.

Have you considered Opera?

I use Microsoft Edge a lot on my laptops too and it seems fairly nice

52ESR, until the end.
Or at lest until on-demand cookie permission managers start working again.

Edge is fine. You can get uBlock Origin from the addon store

Interesting, firefox is the one they called the eater of ram from what I remember. Or a resources hog. Which I've never been particularly bothered with, or even all the changes since Firefox 2/3. But this is just a bridge too far, the tab pages reloading when I click on them.

Chrome would literally max out the CPU and RAM on my older cheap laptops when I wasn't careful. There's definitely something going for it over Firefox.

to be fair chrome does that to me a lot, I'm just surprised to see another since the common opinion echoed here has always been firefox the memory hog
