2. I never said there shouldnt be consequences for racist speech, just that the consequence of physical assault seems pretty uncivilized. Ostracizing someone from the community for racist speech seems a far more civilized and effective deterrent

I dont disagree that happens, I grew up around the projects in the Bronx so believe me I know how easily some people resort to violence for the most trivial shit. Im just arguing whether such a course of action is civilized. Historically violence has been accepted behavior as a way to deal with various personal problems, remember duels in Europe?
