It was sad that Vision died.....twice, but to be fair when they put the mind stone in his head in AoU I remember thinking "he's going to die when Thanos eventually comes for that stone" so they kind of telegraphed then that he was a goner, but I did have slight hope that Shuri would successfully seperate him from the stone.

yeah, you're right. I think a lot of people saw it coming but there was still some hope. After all, the ending itself was a shock and for good reason. For all we knew, there would have been a twist and a happy ending..

but not releasing the Avengers 4 title..well that's pretty much signifying what was going to happen too lol

They're not gonna stay dead, lol. Reality warping means they'll return the next film for a happy ending.

Why does this bother so many people? What may happen in the future shouldn't have any bearing on how you take something as it happens. And if you didn't get just a little choked up when you hear Peter pitifully(and justifiably) whine about not wanting to die. I just, I don't know what to say. Maybe movies aren't your thing.

They just didn't do a good enough job at eliciting an emotional reaction. Probably because the film was pretty overstuffed and the ending was telegraphed from a mile away.

Yeah, Spider-Man going was heart wrenching, even though I'm fully aware he's coming back since they've said Spider-Man 2 takes place immediately after A4. Tom Holland was born for this role.

That's why I wasn't worried, I was surprised as hell, but not worried. They killed the new heroes whose franchises are just starting, I was like "The remaining Avengers will find a way to get them back in the next one." I hope Gamora's death gets reversed. My girlfriend hopes Loki's death gets reversed.....even though its obviously permanent.

Just because you see something coming doesn't mean it can't be impactful. Like I said, I was pretty meh about the ending scene because I know it wouldn't take, but Parker crying in Tony's arms, a literal teenager who was only there because he can't help but do the right thing, dying is just. Still chokes me up a bit. And Tom really sold the fragility and fear of dying.

Fair enough. I don't think people got emotional because they thought they were actually dead. I think it was because knowing something isn't real and actually seeing it happen are different things. We all know they will come back, but actually WATCHING them die was kinda hard. We all grew to love these characters over the last 10 years.

And to add to that, we know what this will do to the characters that are left. They don't know they aren't permanently dead. They just watched dozens of people they love and trillions of innocents die because they were powerless to stop it. Everything they did. Their whole lives as heroes turned upside down. They failed.

I'm calling it: Loki isn't really dead.

It's going to depend on whether or not they get Chris Hemsworth to do more movies

If he signs on for more they'll probably bring at least Loki back to have some returning supporting cast for him

Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek probably survived though

As for the ending, Strange saw one victory out of over 14 million possibilities, and right before fading to dust, told Tony "This is the only way."

So everything that happened up to that point was Strange's plan. He just couldn't tell anyone because that'd fuck the plan up.

If the stones can kill half the universe, they can bring it back too. But I'm certain the pre-snap deaths are permanent, except maybe Gamora. She's likely trapped inside the Soul Stone. We'll probably see Captain America die in A4.

MCU wiki says Valkyrie's body was visible near Heimdall though

Too many people in the universe would eventually lead to the extinction of species everywhere. Not enough to go around while sustaining continuous population growth. Happened to his home planet. He suggested they kill half of the population. Decides to carry it out on a universal scale. It's plausible enough to be belieavable yet extremist enough to where it needs to be stopped. Far more compelling than his motivation in the comics.

His world was getting fucked up because of overpopulation. Not enough resources, too many mouths to feed, etc.

He suggested random genocide of half the population. Obviously no one agreed, but the world eventually ran out of shit and ended up in ruins.

So Thanos decided to mercy kill half the universe.

Also, the PCS was the definition of an Easter egg for fans. Because almost EVERYONE in the theater had no idea what the pager symbol was. Someone actually asked out loud and I said it was Captain Marvel, and was immediately corrected that it was Ms Marvel

That's incorrect though. It's actually Captain Marvel and you were right. Ms. Marvel has a different logo.

The fact that the vast majority of them will be revived or something makes it mostly not matter. Come on. The only characters who died permanently are Loki, Idris Elba, and probably Gamora and Vision.

It's kind of cool to see it end that way, but undermined by the fact that they aren't really dying, it's only temporary.

Also it was kinda funny when teenage Groot first said "I am Groot" sarcastically and some of the audience acted like he ended Star Lord's entire career

What wasn't so funny was the two motormouths next to me, though the theater was blasting audio and drowned them out for most of the movie. The one next to me actually asked "Who is Steve Rogers" when Tony was about to call Captain America....

While waiting for the movie to start, it showed some people doing a super hero quiz. The first question was "which infinity stone is red?" Someone behind me asked "what's an infinity stone?" before being shushed lol.

The only real reaction during the actual movie(Deadpool trailer got some big laughs) was when Iron Man got stabbed by Thanos. There was a loud drawn out gasp from a lady then. GAAA-AAASP!

The fact that the vast majority of them will be revived or something makes it mostly not matter. Come on.

You must not enjoy literally any tv show then because its "obvious" almost any major cliffhanger will be undone in the first few episodes of the following season.

Why is it so hard to believe that people can get invested in this either way? I think my theater collectively let out a sad "aww" when Groot started fading away. Its only obvious to the comic nerds and people familiar with the source material that almost everyone will come back. I'd wager the majority of people who saw this are hoping it will get reversed and are eagerly looking forward to seeing how it MIGHT happen, not that it necessarily will.

Everyone else here needs to also realize that a lot of the emotional investment on the part of the regular audience comes from the fact that this ending is 100% counter to everything Disney and Marvel has done to date. Hell, I fully expected them to avoid the snap and have them stop him from using the gauntlet at the end because that's standard Disney/Marvel. Having not only the good guys lose but half of all life in the universe get wiped out...that's uncharted territory in a series that has, to date, wrapped every previous film up, for the most part, with a ribbon at the end.
