That's not why they are unsuccessful. They are consistently falling behind in a commoditized industry and have absolutely 0 proprietary advantage. Amazon can't exist in 2nd place, and it couldn't have stayed in 1st without riskily embracing web service architecture 5 years ahead of its time.

The last line about how Chinese culture changed when manufacturing shifted from a focus on functionality to a focus on emotional design is crazy interesting. I never thought of that connection before but it's very obvious and powerful.

The more advanced an economy gets, the more it becomes important to specialize and serve smaller groups, especially marginalized groups, as a form of differentiation and market capture. This directly leads to unavoidable social change.

This is also why if you hate trans people and mexicans and such, you will naturally support coal industry bailouts and other economic tethers. I guess people do intuitively understand that if the economy matures, their precious outdated social norms will go with it.

Its super interesting to me that yes, most people think immigration and terrorism are the biggest issues for the EU as a whole, but when you break it down to whats the biggest issue for your country and even further to whats the biggest issue for your family, terrorism drops off the table almost entirely, and immigration takes a back seat to health care/jobs/the environment.

It kind of supports foolmos notion that people are led to believe these things are big problems, but it doesnt affect them locally or personally so they ascribe the issues to other surrounding nations.

The whole point of individualism is you don't need a critical mass/majority to sustain and progress society. Everyone can focus on their own things and it will work out naturally. Like a spider web, there is no master holding everything together, but every strand is contributing to the structure naturally and dynamically. There is no agreement or consensus, simply basic existence and survival.

Adding an extra step where a majority of society picks 1 person to have force over the entire society only introduces a massive point of weakness and corruption.

You can even see it easily in that poll, which you can bet went something like this:
My top 3 issues - indie games, japanese food, terrorism
Muffin's top 3 - fat chicks, angry internet men, immigration
Lasa's top 3 - arguing semantics, hair products, terrorism
Jakyl's top 3 - prostitutes, hoes, immigration

And so the top issues among the brightest political minds of board 8 are, by a landslide: terrorism and immigration!

This is the subjectivity of statistics, and the weaponization of generalization/collectivism in a society. At least, it's only a weapon in a society that would rather believe a comfortable statistic than reality (i.e. majority vote). An individualist society wouldn't give even the tiniest shit about a poll like this, just as it wouldn't give a shit about a poll like the national election.

It's obvious that if solar power reaches a critical efficiency, then the solar belt areas will be massively valuable, to a much more direct extent than how they are now for agricultural purposes (not all crops like maximum sun). It's only natural that countries with the best sun will be attacked for that reason. Finland would want to take over Uganda or something.

The better argument is that there is SO much sunful land on Earth that it would be hard to extract all your local capacity to the extent that you would need to invade another country. Especially since you can still get decent solar energy very far away from the equator. And if we're already using all that energy, we would probably transition to space probes that directly harvest solar energy at max efficiency from above the atmosphere.
