I've accepted that it's not only possible but at this point, very likely the series will not be finished. It's nearly been 7 years since the last book, there is still at least one more to go after that (I don't see how he can finish it in 2), and Martin is turning 70 this year. I don't know if he's given up, lost interest, or written himself into an inescapable corner (I imagine it's a mixture of them all), but there is clearly something more severe than simply "being a slow writer" at hand in these delays. I'm not going to pretend I'm not disappointed, but I'm past the point of getting too riled about it. I've moved on to new books. I will say that I do know that George RR Martin owes me nothing and is at perfect liberty to write whatever he wants. However, I do think it looks tacky as ** that when you've become infamous for delaying the latest entry in your flagship series that you know fans have been impatiently waiting for for years and you instead release a near thousand-page spin-off novel. Especially when you dedicated a tiny paragraph to the Winds of Winter news and a giant wall of text to the spin-off novel in your blog.
