Spacing them out helps a lot. Don't tell yourself you are going to quit, just tell yourself you are going to wait a bit longer for your smoke. Like, if you smoke once every two hours, wait four hours. I also found that subbing in something else can help. Just make sure that you don't sub in something even more unhealthy.

I had surgery for an unrelated issue, and while I was at home, I was really out of it for about two days on pain pills and just pain in general. When I was up and moving a bit more again, I took one drag, it tasted like shit, and never smoked again

Smoked for 11 years

I know quite a few people who quit and they all went cold turkey. They said trying to wean down always made them fail.

Make sure your "last one" is all you have left.

Having tobacco/cigs in the house when you've "quit" really doesn't help.

Focus on seperating yourself from the situations you usually smoke in. Set short term goals. I personally found the first 4 weeks the worst after that it felt easier.

Personally what motivated me to quit were health related. I just ended up getting really paranoid about it giving me cancer, and I had to stop. It was easy then.

I had a friend who openly argued with me that cigarettes didn't cause cancer and that it was a big pharma conspiracy. Needless to say, I had a friend.

That shit is so dumb

Never craved another cigarette after I started. It definitely looks dumb but it worked for me, and it's pretty easy to wean down to lower and lower levels of nicotine.

First stop buying them. You can bum them all you want but eventually all your friends/family will see you coming and either walk the other way or hide them. Bumming cigarettes from strangers is awkward and will wear thin.
Second, quit smoking for 2 weeks. Everytime you want one tell yourself it's only for 2 weeks and count the days. If you fail, finish your cigarette(s) and start over. You're only truly defeated if you give up trying. It generally takes 2 weeks for your body to naturally detoxify itself. Once you make it, see how you feel. If you still want to quit, carry on. If not, you prolly didn't truly want to quit in the first place. No one can make you quit but you.
This worked for me. I failed so many times I got to the point where I knew the longer I quit, smoked, quit, smoked, quit, the longer I would have to deal with the withdrawal. The withdrawal sucked but it stopped eventually. It still comes back every now and then but it's weaker and easier to deal with.

Remove the opportunities to smoke

You can't quit when there's cigarettes in your home so "weaning down" isn't going to work.

Get friends that don't smoke. Hanging out with smokers makes it extremely difficult to quit. Even if you don't have any your friends will give them to you.

Start exercising so you can physically experience the effect it has on your body and also feel the improvements as you go longer and longer without it.

Each time you fail to quit just pay attention and realize the only thing smoking a cigarette does is make you want another later on. That was a big realization for me, thinking if I just have one it won't be a big deal but then an hour later I'm craving again.

First things first, don't buy anymore cigarettes, secondly make a list of all the reasons you want to quit and either commit it to memory or take this paper with you, thirdly understand when you really need one versus I'm bored and have nothing better to do, next, start new hobbies to fill the time such as exercise or something you like(I recommend exercise because it strengthens your resolve not to smoke), Another thing is know your triggers that cause you to smoke and stay away from them including friends if you have to, lastly, stick with it, there will be a lot of ups and downs but after 2 weeks that is when things tend to return to normal.

If you need any more advice feel free to ask me.

i used nicorette gum. got them pretty cheap on amazon.

i used that to wean myself off the addiction. it worked for me. over i think 2 or 3 months i worked myself down from chewing every 3 hours to 6 hours to twice a day to once a day. then i just had to stop and suffer though not having it at all. it was tough but i survived and i ended my addiction.

i did return to smoking during some truly testing times of my life, but it wasn't a full blown addiction like it was before. but i quit that and just drink alcohol when times get tough lol. not sure if thats better <_<

I quit by vaping. You don't have to be like those kids with those huge brick things with spouts that let you blow huge clouds like a dragon.

There are smaller ones specifically designed for quitting smokers, they give you a throat hit and nicotine hit like a cigarette and have minimal vapor.

My mom quit recently and was able to do so by using extended release nicotine patches and a bit of motivation. I told her that she wouldn't be able to watch the baby unless she quit smoking.

Sounds easy enough but it's not always an easy task to find that sort of motivation in your life to push you to do things like this.
