This game is so weird and fun and chaotic >_> Scrambling to knock zombies away, picking up all sorts of weapons, this is just so fun! I can't believe I missed out on this for so long.

I just did the first row of case files and now I have to wait for 6am on the 2nd day. Is there a way to speed up time or a wait feature? Any other tips I should know for my first time?

The prisoners in the courtyard driving around in the Jeep respawn so its often best to run right past them

Enjoy one of the best games ever.

No way to speed up time. Run around the mall while you wait for the story and you'll get plenty of sidequests at specific times.

Also, you're kind of expected to start over a lot. Multiple endings but only one for completing the story. If you fail the story just keep playing. You'll still get the side quests and can do whatever to level up.

Those guys almost kicked my ass >_> I kept shooting the gunner, but it didn't kill him after 5 shots or so, so I just booked it with the female chick they tried to kill.

btw, I let a lot of sidequests die so far since I've just been focusing on the main story. Am I missing out on some upgrades or weapons or is it solely just exp?

Yeah. Most of them are just people to escort to safety but there are bosses too and most have unique weapons. The quest about the roller coaster is a must.

So the way the game works is that you have the in game timer to complete the main quest, and all the side content is extra. The idea is that you wont have enough time to do everything, so time management is important and you need to expect that you will miss many side quests and its just part of the game. Good players who know the game well and have probably beaten the game multiple times know how to hit them all in one playthorugh; thats the replay value for the game, multiple playthroughs.

Iirc, you arent missing upgrades but there are exclusive items and things you can unlock like shortcuts and stuff.

Edit: as someone else said, do the roller coaster mission. It gives you the best weapons in the game

Only trial and error. You can cook some food and combine stuff at a blender for a drink that gives temporary buffs.

Yeah. You don't even have to finish the game to carry over your level. So you could just level and dick around and then restart whenever to do the story or whatever

Youll get an alert from Otis about it on one of the days, the mission is called Out of Control.

Dont look up the boss battles if you can help it because some of them are real treats. Its fun to be surprised by them, you fight some truly bizarre characters

Here's a tip: DON'T WASTE TIME. Time is incredibly goddamn precious in Dead Rising. Now that you've got like the equivalent of an hour in real time before the next case, make the best of it. Go stock up on OJ in the first plaza, grab a katana from the awning right outside the place where you got the OJ, and then head to the gun store in the North Plaza, and get ready for a fight. Trust me, those guns will come in handy for what's to come.

In the spoiler is what I recommend you do, but honest to God, the best way to play the game is to just play it blind. You have so much more fun when you're figuring out what you like best.

Also, and since everybody has already spoiled the rollercoaster bit, I'll add this: Not only do you get access to some good weapons, but you also get a really useful shortcut if you follow through the survivor's instructions that will come in handy as the game progresses.

It's really not that bad. There's a save spot in the security room and you'll find yourself close enough to them pretty often. You just gotta remember to stop and save.

They're practically mandatory and you should have at least 3 on you at all times if you're going for an all survivor/quest run (which I've made all my runs be after the second playthrough, second being a zombie genocider playthrough) because of how awful the survivor AI is and how clumped zombies get at nighttime. Also, some quests almost require it to start, big example being that unannounced girl getting fucking horded in the waterway.

Also, TC these things won't be of use to you in non survivor runs but here are two hidden things they never tell you. You can only have 8 potential survivors at once loaded (psychos do not count except one) and that includes the ones in your party and in unfinished quests so you wont' get calls for new quests if your survivor count exceeds that. Second, you should take a picture of the outside of the safe house as well as try to get an "erotic" photo over 700 stored and locked in your camera because two quests (though you probably won't be able to do them on this run) need them.

DR2 is a true sequel, it is basically DR1 but with improvements to gameplay (such as better survivor AI) and just more content overall. making combo weapons is really fun. awesome game, chuck greene is such a fun character

I think DR3 is actually really good, not sure if it is on anything other than Xbox though.

DR4 is absolute garbage and feels like it was made by people who never played a DR game before, it completely misses the entire appeal of the franchise
