I saw the Braves are planning to call up Joey Bats and have them be their everyday 3B. I'm happy someone is giving him a shot. I forgive him for being a whiny baby because his home run + bat flip in the playoffs was so electrifying.

How many times would the Caps have made the Eastern conference finals if they didn't have to play the Penguins in the second round every year? Has the NHL's horrendous playoff system caused the Caps to look worse than they really are?

also the Caps are booked to lose to the Penguins again now

As a Caps fan, I'm hard to argue that, given the Caps' playoff history....

I just read the article about how baseball is widely heading towards the three-true-outcomes.

Then I remembered an article I read the other day about a lot of pitchers using pine tar, or lotion if they're sensitive to the blisters that pine tar causes. And no one gets called out on it since pitchers from every team do it. It makes sense that strikeouts would be increased.

Then I remembered that article about the change to the baseballs last year that reduced air resistance and made them fly further. It makes sense that home runs would be increased.

Walks are only up for certain players at this point, but I'm sure some article will break this down later to complete the trifecta.

The soaring home run rate also contributes to the increased strikeout rate because now guys know that it's strategically viable to sell out for power when even the lowliest infielders are capable of hitting 20 homers. So they try and succeed to hit more homers and strike out more because contact hitting is less of a concern, and also because pitching velocities are insanely high so it kind of makes sense to roll the dice and try for a bomb instead of letting yourself get sawed off or jammed on weak contact if you choke up. Plus the velocities make striking out easier anyway.

Missouri lawmakers are citing our sociopath rapist Governor's crimes as an example of what can happen in a hypersexualized society in their bid to turn porn into a public health crisis.

It's way too easy to find porn nowadays, but that's pretty dumb. You're not going to get rid of the porn, there's too much on the internet. I'm not sure if that's what "public health crisis" means, though; judging by how opioids have gone, it mainly seems to be a symbolic gesture. Death penalty for porn directors maybe?

Yeah I'm not sure what their goal is either because they haven't been talking about banning it. I think they want to do like public school education on the horrors of porn, and maybe PSA's and stuff like that. Probably like the ads you see at train stations for health stuff too. Just some weird puritanism that I found funny because of how they used our beautiful governor for it.

By the way, not that there's any reason why you guys would know this, but the Governor Greitens defense force on facebook is arguably 100x crazier than the Trump defense force. You know how you'll see psychos who are like "how is this relevant to the great job he's doing" when Trump says like all dogs are boys and all cats are girls or whatever, well Missouri facebook is full of people going "I don't care if Greitens made a naked woman lie on a bed of hot coals as long as he keeps up the good work!"

Lol, teaching kids about porn in school is just going to let them know it exists. Maybe kids already know these days, I don't know. I had to have been at least 10 by the time I knew what porn was. It would fit in with a HS health class, at least, but nobody is going to give a shit

People can get legitimately addicted to it, but that applies to most things and I feel like you'd have to be watching a huge amount of it for it to become a problem. I guess there are people who just watch it to watch it but for most people it's transactional so even if they use it every day it doesn't add up to much.

That is something I should ask the principal at my kids' school. When they first got more computers in the classes and media center they told us parents there were a limit of what pages they have access to and couldn't play games on them. Two weeks later pretty much everyone is going on youtube and playing Minecraft. Now kids down to 1st grade are playing the Five Nights at Freddy's games.

At least Minecraft is pseudo-educational. I wish I played that in school instead of Math Blaster... in hindsight. I'll admit that getting to play Math Blaster was pretty awesome at the time

You can build circuits and logic gates and shit in it, but I don't know if that many little kids really do that. At least it might spark an interest if they watch YouTube videos of it, even if they don't build it themselves. Personally, I never built much more than simple on/off circuits since it's pretty cumbersome, but some kids probably have much more patience than me

I'm like an old man now when it comes to video games, I don't play as much or know much about the latest games. My kids play minecraft and I do know they make some kind of circuits and logic gates. They were explaining it to me but I didn't understand what they were fully explaining. I don't know how complex they were to build but it was interesting.

I wen't to macy's to buy some dress shoes and they had the dumbest promotion ever. I was checking out and they said they have a "presale" deal going on and if I come back to pick up the shoes on Friday I'll get 30% off. It was such a weird concept that it took me a second to get what they were saying. I obviously said no and took them home. I would pay 30% extra to not have to come back.

I guess the idea behind it is if I leave and come back Friday I'll buy more stuff while I'm picking up the shoes? I have no idea

As a former Macy's employee, yes, that is what they want you to do. However, here's a pro tip: if you complain enough or get a cool young sales associate they will probably just give you the pre-sale price right there.

I know fuck all about Macy's, but honestly, who wants to buy stuff at Macy's?

Whenever I shop, they usually give me a percentage off if I come in to buy between a very specific date range, which is too much effort.

I usually go to macy's because I have a macy's card which is 20% off everything in addition whatever their sales are, plus it's close to my house. I hate clothes shopping more than almost anything, but you can get pretty good stuff for a reasonable price there. I just ignore their certain date/time coupons.

I just needed a pair of brown dress shoes that I probably won't need to wear again and I got a pretty ok deal. And goddammit, I think they look nice

That's a fancy-ass mouse and keyboard, or at least it is to me. I have some basic Dell keyboard I got for like $4 at Goodwill.

And the shoes look good. I don't have any brown ones anymore. I used to wear brown ones for work but then I started getting ones that were less dressy since I realized some people get away with sneakers (but I never took it that far)

I also gotta say... I was at macy's for a good 45 minutes, went to the dressing room a couple times (also bought a couple pairs of shorts) and their soundtrack absolutely shredded.
highlights were:
Head Over Feet by Alanis Morissete
DJ Khaled - I'm The One ft. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance (I non ironically like this song)
Mr. Brightside by the Killers

On the subject of dress clothes, there was once a time in my life when I owned what must have been around a dozen ties. One day I finally asked myself, why do I have all these? Most of them were pieces of shit I got from Goodwill, or my dad's rejected hand-me-downs. The coolest hand-me-down was an old-school Colorado Rockies tie which I still have, but I don't know what's an appropriate occasion to wear something like that. Also I used to have like ten dress shirts, of which maybe four of them actually fit well. Dress clothes are dumb
