That is adding context and details where there are none to make your own experience more engaging.

For instance in Forza Horizon 3 Ive got an imaginary tournament going on for the Horizon Championship by scheduling different championship events to culiminate in one big race-off at the end (though this was partly inspired by my genuine frustration with how abruptly and quickly the single player mode finishes). >_>

No. As long as you're not ruining other people's enjoyment, play however you like.

Hell no back when I used to play JRPGs when I was younger and the dialogue would start to go all cringe-weaboo or engrish-speak, I would just imagine in my head that it was like a movie and I would give the characters better dialogue

I think thats one of the reasons I stopped liking the genre after most games switched to spoken voice acting instead of text on screen

No dumber than playing pretend with real life dolls.

I remember in Oblivion role playing as a citizen of the Imperial City living in the shack on the Waterfront District.

Good times

I used to make my own story in Melee where Pikachu was the main character and Yoshi and Ness were his sidekicks (each at level 3 CPU) and Id team up with them to fight Level 9 CPUs as part of some grand adventure.

I even remember doing a thing where I made the Ice Climbers stage like an obstacle course, where I put a time limit and the character who was highest up by the time limit was the winner.

It's using the power of imagination creatively. Why would it be stupid to write your own stories in your head? You don't have to be just a passive consumer of someone else's ideas.

I am 34 years old and play D&D, which is pretty much playing pretend with nothing but paper and books, so no.

But I would never go LARPing, that is just weird.

This exactly. It's good to keep an active imagination.

I don't pretend as much with my video games as when I was younger, but I absolutely imagine specific personas for player created characters and stuff.

I also have video game dreams and sometimes daydream about imaginary games and stuff... Never stop dreaming.

Admittedly, sometimes when I play Skyrim, I like to play a Nord and its nice to just be able to fit in, not having to do deal with racism like I occasionally do in real life.

I actually DM Shadowrun games, but I have a hard time finding people willing to play them. D&D seems to be the go to for anyone looking to get into P&P RPGs. Still, if you are used to D6 games like Shadowrun it is kind of a shock switching to a D20 game like D&D (although I think D&D is easier to play since you have less dice to worry about).

I have never DMed a D&D game though.

No, DnD is easier because they don't have 30 pages of gear that's important for your character to be competent, and 100 pages of gear to be broken beyond hell.

DnD you have to be nice to your GM, not just buy stuff.

Far from stupid. Watching my kid wander around in a Zelda game for hours without advancing the story seems aggravating to adult me but its really eye opening to see how much imagination I've lost over the years.
