Like instead of playing games because you want to, you do it either because you have them for reasons you no longer remember (maybe bought it on sale a long time ago), or want to feel more "cultured" as a gamer? I've fallen a bit into that trap in recent years. I won't get stuff that I think looks completely uninteresting to me, but I'll end up finishing certain games and realize, yeah, I could have lived without playing that.

Meh, not so much for me.

I've beaten games that I got bored of playing, though. Like, I slogged through a game I eventually found boring just to put a notch on my belt

I try not to. If it ever starts to feel that way, I'll usually quit that game.

question for you steamed hams whats the oldest game you have played that is still in your backlog years after you first played it mine is ultima 4 quest of teh avatar the sms version and I played that in the late 80's and still havent beaten it.

I have decades of backlogged games I've never played. I do sometimes play a game just because I've owned it for a long time and feel bad about wasting it. I will usually give it up pretty quickly if I don't like it though.

There are definitely times when a long game gets boring or changes mechanics or just got too long and I'll beat it only to beat it.

I have certainly had times where I've felt like a game was a waste of my time. Which is saying something, considering I think literally everything is just a way to waste time until we die. :P

Uh, I'm not sure what you're asking here. Basically what game I've never got around to finishing that I played a long time ago? Probably some shitty NES game like Dr. Jekyll or Jaws, but it's a stretch to say they're in my backlog. I still own them, but I have no intention of playing them. I consider my true backlog to be something I have a chance of playing, even if it's 1%.

As far as games I actually want to beat, I never finished the final boss of Jet Force Gemini.

I think a more interesting question is how long you've owned a game without playing it at all. For me, I think maybe something on my 360? But I've had a 360 for less than five years, so that's not too long. I've played pretty much all of my physical games at least once, so I believe something older is out of the question.

kinda. they where games I wanted to play. but when I got a job that finally payed a lot more than minimum wage I kinda went crazy on buying games and ended up making a large backlog of games. and I hate having paid for a game and then not playing it. hell I still have final fantasy 15 in the plastic wrap. gotta get around to that one soon. also have assassain's creed black flag which i've yet to touch.

I have absolutely done that. Thankfully, it's a habit I believe I've broken. Most recently, Far Cry 5 is an example of a game I actually plugged around thirty hours into before realizing I'd done all I currently care to do, and so I dropped it in favor of a different game (SotC for PS4). With such little free time, I no longer force myself to witness the endings of any and all games, and I'm surprised to say that I don't resent that reality.

I don't really game much these days but, idk, it's possible back when I did it more often. There were certainly a few bad games I kept playing, like Dementium 2.

Not at all. But I'm starting to think I might be buying games as a sort of checklist, to say that I have them. Like I have a lot of PS2 games that I've never played, and I hunted down many of the most popular/underrated/hidden gem games (especially on Wii) and never started them.

Yeah, I've had that problem a lot, but I think I'm getting better about that too lately. I definitely don't replay things as often... but there really isn't anything wrong with doing so. I mean, if you know you enjoy it, why not?

Not really. Just like with books or movies, if a game just doesn't seem fun to me I don't feel I need to finish it. That being said I still have Silent Hill 4 that I never opened yet, despite buying it the week it came out because it was on sale and I told myself I will get around to it. One day I will.

Im doing that with the FF games I either only played through once, or started and never finished. Basically I want to be able to say that Ive played the bulk of them, instead of just owning the bulk of them.
