It's by far the best of the "Fake" Final Fantasy games. I thought it was good, but I simply don't like that style of combat and I will never play another game from the series.

Vaan is a terrible choice for main character, so far as the actual over arching story goes I have no beef, just that he and Penelo are pointless.

I like it but the mmo-lite style combat isn't for everyone. Also the combat is significantly more efficient when you aren't actually controlling anybody.

Plus idk if you ever played vanilla but any any command that wasn't a buff or attack was basically pointless, international/ZA did a decent job making magic not pointless.

I remember doing some crazy shit at the start of that game. Since you can fight with Vaan alone at the start of the game, do that for a long time and get combos with those wolves. 12, I think, gives you split EXP. Meaning that if the party gets 100 EXP, then everyone gets 25 EXP if you have 4 party members, but if you just have on, that person gets all 100 EXP. You do this because when you get the girl, your second party member, her level starts the same as Vaan's

So if you grind wolves out for a long time, level up quick, and then go farm that Warewolf for the. . .what was it. Some Death Katana, which you can get before you even get your second party member. This carried me for a tone time until I got another awesome weapon, a Bow I think.

I didn't play the original, but based on the remastered music I'd say yes. Just compared a few of the tracks and the remastered music is much better. And you get to give each character two license boards rather than just one, so it has more variety. And other quality of life improvements like a better map, ability to run fast, etc.

Tbqh X is also a fantastic game. Easily a masterpiece. But if XII continues at this rate it'll easily be the best FF game. has the potential to dethrone FF IX as my favorite FF game.

Ehhh... I would say it's still turned based combat but masked with real-time elements like Black Isle's Forgotten Realm games.

The original was so dull and irritating i couldn't finish it. The first time i've voluntarily given up on a FF. The game case made a useful doorstop though, so at least some good came of it. Pity it was so expensive.

Just how different is ZA? It would have to be drastically changed for me to want to try it.

I'm confused as to why people say the story is lacking. Does it just stop caring about the story at some point in the game? A lot of story so far, both when talking to NPCs and when progressing through the game via cutscenes.

In fact I'd say it has more story than FF XIV did by this point. XIV's story basically collapsed into a massive rushed pile of shit, whereas so far this game's story is going strong.

I have been playing Zodiac Age on my PC with the remastered OST. The music is breathtakingly good. It's just so beautiful. I've literally found myself stopping randomly to listen to music or grinding in the desert just to hear the music loop through again. Love it!

I also really loved FF XIII's soundtrack.

13 hours in. I'm at the part where we just collected a shard and it blew up one of Archadia's fleets. I just started walking through the Giza Plains during rainy season to go find that village of elders who know how to use the shard.

Yeah sorry when I said the story is lacking I meant in comparison to other FFs. For me the characters are less memorable and the plot is less interesting than in games such as VIII. However the awesome gameplay, soundtrack, etc. more than makes up for this.

Don't remember, i got the game on release so it was a long time ago.

I remember having all the Espers, spent a long time getting a strong spear and there was something about a giant crystal, but my memory of everything beyond that is blurred, my interest was really running on fumes by that point.

I'm not sure how far through that was, but i'd spent a lot of time pushing myself to get my money's worth out of the game despite not enjoying it, so this isn't a case of giving up a few hours in.

When i gave up on playing, i just watched videos to see what i was going to miss out on plot-wise.

I've spent the whole afternoon chaining bombshells in the Lhusu Mines in minus mode trying to get a darkblade for the yiazmat fight. I did this once before on the vanilla FF12 and thought I'd never do this again because it's actually kind of maddening. But I'm not inconsolably frustrated with this yet, and TZA's fast forward button is an amazing feature that makes up for well over half of my complaints of the original.
