I've recently come to notice that pretty much every repairman (plumber, hvac, electrician, construction, etc.) I've come across is incredibly dishonest, lazy, and they charge a ton for little work. It has made me think that the profession attracts such people, especially the ones who are part of a union.

What I've found with people is that most folks are cheap, and devalue the work of others. The repair guy is charging for his years of expertise, plus parts and labor. He's charging what he needs to charge to keep a roof over his head and food in his belly. Don't wanna pay that? Fix shit yourself.

Hedge fund managers.

Ugh, one of those fuckers ripped me off.
Was at my bank, and they sold me on listening to a guy who managed PIMCO bond accounts. I've never gone into stocks b/c I'm risk-averse, but he showed me how over the past 30 years, only one year did the bond fund lose money, and it was only 2%. It never gained more than like 6 or 8% either, but like I said...risk-averse, that's fine as long as it's not going down.
So of course, within a few months of starting it, the bond fund fucking tanked. >_<
What really pissed me off was...he'd seldom answer his phone and when he did, about a week into the route, I asked if there was any way out of the fund before the 1 year minimum w/o paying a penalty fee, and he said no.
After another week and ANOTHER $1500 dollars lost, he finally admitted I could transfer it to a PIMCO money market account and make 0.05% interest but not have any chance of more losses and avoid the penalty fee, so I did that. I feel like it should be illegal for him to have outright lied to me about my money management options (but it'd be hard to prove based off of phone calls I didn't record, so..).

I liked that bank, but after that I was so pissed off that I moved all of my money out of there and I'm never going back.

You are incorrect in this statement. True - some of them are dishonest. Most are not.

It may seem like 'little work' - but in many cases this is because they know what they are doing and do it every day.

Think of it this way - would you rather pay someone more money to get something quickly done or less money and have them take forever?

I think it depends on what it is and how long forever is in this case...

On my base, they have good mechanics. They can be expensive, but if you're trying to save money, there's a way. If you have the parts, they will let you use the garage to fix your own car. They'll even give you advice. They said they won't charge you as long as they don't touch the car. They'll let you use the tools, too, IIRC...

Luckily I have a good mechanic who is a friend of mine but I can't count the number of mechanics that I, as well as friends and family, have had that were clearly trying to rip us off. Luckily, I know better and if a mechanic tells me it will be 800 bucks to change the alternator, I know they're full of shit. I'd say the number of mechanics I've encountered that are full of shit far outnumber the ones that aren't. I understand everyone wants to make a ton of money but if you do that by ripping people off you're a scumbag

Most of them. I've been learning how to do more stuff on my own lately and it's crazy how much cheaper it is than paying for a service. I understand that they need to make a profit, but most of the time, things are just really overpriced.

I have the only proper answer here

Timeshare salesmen.

They will make timeshares seem like a huge money-saving investment if you vacation every year, but what they dont tell you is that youre essentially paying a second mortgage every month with ridiculous (mostly higher than 17%) interest rates along with stupidly high HOA fees.

Its such a scam, and old people fall for it way too often, especially when theyre surviving solely on things like social security and their menial penchants.

Medicine. Used to be proudly ethical and trustworthy, now reflects how the TV show House, M.D. is incredibly true to life, unnecessary and expensive tests, unnecessary and dangerous medications, if they don't damage you by accident, you get better on your own, but your finances can never recover.

A mechanic will give you an estimate, a physician or hospital won't.

I don't think I've paid anyone in this profession "less money." Online reviews are seldom helpful, and pretty much every single one I've called has acted sketchy at some point.

In the US, I agree. A lot of it is insurance-related, and lobbyists make sure it stays this way since the industry is lucrative. It also incentivizes physicians to see more patients as opposed to giving each patient better care. The worst offenders I've seen are the physicians who take medicare insurance from patients.
