I get the criticisms, I do. At the same time, I personally enjoy so much of FF XIII. Love the environments, the characters. I really like the message the game sends of moving forward through adversity and not looking back, no matter how hard it may be.

I'd rank it in my Top 5 FF games for sure.

Bottom tier for me. I couldnt even get through it, its really nothing like a FF game. The FNC was a bad idea and shouldve been a set of spin-off games, not main title releases. In XV the FNC is so watered down its barely there.

Eh i like though certainly not one of my favorites. Not including sequels of the 9 mainline ive played id rate it 6th.

It is amusing that FF XIII followed up FF XII which was one of the most open FF's ever. They really had to be super rushed when making FF XIII because only a few areas really open up in the game and they are mostly extremely late in the game.

I liked some of the game and also disliked some of it. It was an OK game overall, though it makes a cardinal sin of taking forever before it lets you do your own thing, because it spends the first 2/3 of the time slowly telling you how to play it, feature by feature. At least it wasn't like XII, which triggered every negative feeling you can imagine.

Indeed, and that was just past the 2/3 mark of the game. Basically it was a reverse XV in that regard.

I think the game gets way more flak than it deserves, but I wouldn't call it one of the best. It does have my favorite battle system in the series, though. At least once you get through the 20-hour tutorial.

I did like the battle system. And I agree that while it wasn't the best, it's get more flak than it deserves.

It was more a part of the narrative for XIII. By the time you got to that point, the "truths" of what the characters were going through were revealed. As a result, they finally regained their freedom, but it was more a false freedom tied to the narrative that they were all pawns in someone else's plan.

I kind of liked the battle system, but I hated how they executed almost everything else. Gameplay, story, characters...I feel like it was all botched.

They had a cool setting and lore that suffered by chucking your ass into it, and throwing a million terms at you that you have no idea what they mean so the start of the game feels.. disorientating? Best way I can describe it. I'm barely in the game (my first play through) and I'm sitting there like "What the fuck is a Fal'cie, L'cie, Pulse, Cacoon...?" Once you play through again with a grasp on things, it's much more enjoyable.
