I haven't read the whole thing, but could go either way. But how are they going to test the kids knowledge? As long as the kids are learning, I guess it's fine. Homework only really mattered for a few classes where you could show you work or something like that. Test were good for knowledge checks. Just make them mean less to lessen the stress, but still able to check knowledge...

I can see the purpose but do they really want to make people less prepared for the real world? Homework and tests are supposed to teach kids responsibility so that when they have to become adults and be responsible they know how to manage their time to actually do it without killing themselves. I mean in college you have homework and tests, and paying your bills and doing your taxes can probably be considered "homework" as well.

The argument you frequently hear is that most people don't take their work home with them and in real life you are allowed to look at the book when you don't know the answer. The simple response to the argument is that kids whose brains are forming would do well to cement simple processes in their minds through practice and memorization.

I don't think getting rid of test and homework is a good idea but I'm also not an academic who has studied education.

Don't they allow kids to use their boon for homework, too. Test are different, but you also may have those at certain jobs, too...

Homework is bullshit. With the exception of long term assignments such as a lengthy book report or other papers that I was expected to work on for weeks if not months, I don't think it ever helped me learn. Long term assignments have their place, they don't just teach the material, they teach different ways of thinking and managing your time.

But that thing where my math teacher wanted me to complete a dozen or so word problems, that can be handled in class.

Stress can be bad in certain amounts, especially when younger... It's not a spa, but you shouldn't be super stressed, either...

I do that like, all the time. In fact I put in about 16 extra hours this week working from home.

Yay for laptops and VPN's I guess.

That part however is true. I don't know why they would still require kids to memorize formulas and shit.

The more obvious solution to me is that if excessive homework is causing stress related health issues than maybe lower homework to more managable levels instead of getting rid of it entirely.

As an aside: I never had homework so I don't know what metric they are using. Of course, my classmates complained about homework... but they were time wasters in class where I usually finished the assignment and was bored all day.

Homework is pointless. Tests i don't understand why that's going. Its supposed to be a way to measure how much you've learned over a period of time.

Leave homework and tests alone

Keep testing.
Do away with homework.

People say less homework but how do you measure that when you got 8-10 subjects all still giving homework? That's still a crap ton of homework.

That would also mean less work for the teachers meaning they can plan their lessons more efficiently.

Theoretically, anyways.

Are you in the air force? I ask because goldfien rather explicitly stated that the switch was for flyers to take workstations wherever they went.

Also, in a work center usually only command staff have issued machines and that is only when they are flyers.

I'm in the Air Force. And we switched over all the computers to laptops. So, it's for everyone. With certain jobs like being a maintainer on the flight line, the only ones that might take home a computer are some of the shop leads doing EPRs. But there aren't really enough of them to take home constantly. Some of the Active reserve members take theirs, depending on the section they're in. For a bunch of jobs, like personnel and anyone in their building, they can absolute take their homes to get any extra work done as they have their own section. But most people would rather not if they can help it. To be honest, our flyers rarely stay where they're flying. For the amount of flying that they do. So, they usually don't take their laptops with them... That does mean that it's not the official reason, though...

A lot of poeple with specific program or a CAC reader at home were already doing it if they had too many to do at work. This apparently makes it easier. Which is true. Since if you didn't have any program, you'd probably end up writing a couple variations of the same thing to see if you could make them fit correctly when you got back to work. I agree with you, though. I would rather leave those at work.
