I still want to know what TC did in the first place to make his gf not want to be with him anymore.

She had something bad happen to her this weekend, and I got scared so I told my friend group about it because I was going nuts not being able to do anything or see her. She's a very private person, and got upset that I told my friends about what had happened. She found out after one or two of them text her to see if she was okay.

Well that's irresponsible of her, she had you worried sick and failed to contact you? What kind of attraction can there be to a person like that besides a booty call?

In all seriousness, anti-depressants should be a last resort rather than a first resort. When anti-depressants undergo clinical trials, they're only required to show statistically significant short-term improvement over a placebo drug. What isn't reported is that people given the placebo improve nearly as much with far fewer side effects. Research is also showing that ~85% of people with major depression who take no medication get over it within a year and rarely relapse, whereas those who take anti-depressants are likely to remain on them long-term or to relapse when taken off of them. I'm not saying to never take an anti-depressant--obviously there are many people whose lives were saved by them. But they are massively over-prescribed while their risks are downplayed, and they only mask symptoms of depression without treating it. Unless you are very seriously depressed to the point of being suicidal, it's probably better to try other strategies first.

^ This is from the actual study one of your Alex Jones level articles is referencing. Nobody is claiming that medication should be a first resort, but it does help many people.

CONCLUSIONS: The magnitude of benefit of antidepressant medication compared with placebo increases with severity of depression symptoms and may be minimal or nonexistent, on average, in patients with mild or moderate symptoms. For patients with very severe depression, the benefit of medications over placebo is substantial.

Yes, and if you read my comment I noted that as well. Those "Alex Jones" articles, as you called them, were written by psychologists with distinguished credentials citing many different studies. You may want to read them more carefully before you pronounce judgment.

Then theyd be biased since their practices are threatened by psychiatry as psychologists dont prescribe medication

The fact is that many types of mental illness can be caused by imbalances that arent necessarily treatable with lifestyle changes alone. Everyones mind is different so maybe let professionals use their judgement instead of trying to spread propaganda online.

TC has expressed repeated suicidal thoughts. By disparaging a method of treatment you could be doing real harm. Medication helps many people.

Yes, and I expressly indicated that medication is preferable for that situation in my original post. For other situations, trying other treatments first would be preferable for the reasons outlined in those links.

And you have no clue what TCs situation is or what is causing him to feel this way so maybe encouragement for him to speak to a professional is better than citing a bunch of biased articles

The articles are not biased, propaganda, or Alex Jones-tier just because you personally don't agree with the conclusions. They're written by people with excellent credentials, and they link to a plethora of studies. If you don't agree and don't want to read them that's your prerogative, but other people can make up their own minds.

Nobody is gonna feel sorry for you so its time to be an adult and realize that wallowing in self pity is not going to improve anything

Either you can have a crappy mopey life where you are always feeling down or you can actually try to just talk to some professionals and see if they can help. What do you have to lose

Why are you antagonizing him? TC definitely seems to have depression, so insulting him isnt going to help him.

Dude, see a therapist or talk to a friend. It doesnt matter if youre not worth their time, hell waste their time if it means youll get better and get through your mental hang-ups.

Not insulting him

Trying to talk sense into him and encourage him to realize how foolish his current outlook is. Guy needs to realize that he does indeed have self-worth and is worth trying for

I didn't say it was the healthiest. But, it is better than talking to real life friends. Especially since that's why she was mad in the first place...
