Fresh off his #1 Movie, Ready Player One, the sci-fi gaming epic film that cost a massive 300M+ has suggested that after Harrison Ford leaves the franchise for his final film that a FEMALE should take the helm in the next re-iteration!!..

He said "We've had to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that".

He acknowledged that fans would be angry at the change in the iconic film star's gender but he's been a strong supporter of women and the Time's Up movement as the liberal director even gave a rousing endorsement to OPRAH for president.

Steven says "I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom i have just loved madly, my mom and my wife"

There has been mixed responses when a male lead is replaced by females in franchises as Star Wars has been a successful change up but Ghostbusters was not as studios have to be careful when replacing the gender and if there is widespread outrage.

Overlooking that it wouldn't make much sense and hurts the overall direction of the franchise, there's going to be some level of controversy no matter who gets cast as the next Indy. And, quite honestly, they seriously dropped the ball by casting Shia the Doof in Crystal Skull since he's not going to be the kind of guy you can build as a replacement Indy. Had they gone with somebody different and used him as a supporting character, they could have moved the franchise's direction more organically. That said, the "Young Indiana Jones" approach might also work.

Actually, I changed my mind - since Indiana Jones was based on the serials of the earlier decades (and Crystal Skull tried to do the same), a Female Indiana Jones COULD legitimately work if it was based on the progressive 70s serials..

Would a female James Bond film be called James Barbara?

Should the new Doctor Who be called Doctor Wendy because of the female lead?

How about a gender swapped take on The Great Detective called Sherlock Hannah, with her sidekick Dr. Wilma as they investigate the nefarious schemes of the 'Nikki of Crime' Professor James Marietta and her henchwoman Colonel Sebastian 'Basher' Mary?

Honestly, the stupidity of swapping a established character's surname with a female first name to feminise it is more triggering than than the rest of the unnecessary remake... I mean for fuck's sake, Indiana Jone's real name is Herny Jones Junior, so Henrietta Jones is a lot more logical than Indiana Joan.

Im not offended but why cant Spielberg create a real female character instead of turning a male character into female? Wouldnt that be more of a challenge, artistically speaking I mean? It seems to me that too many creative people have decided to play it safe by casting women in male roles instead of creating relatable female characters.

Here's a better idea: Indiana has a Daughter, or he trains a female Apprentice/Student to carry on what he's been doing, or hell have some weird artifact that makes a female clone of him.
