Do you generally have good luck with RNG in video games (item drops, boss patterns, etc)? - Results (5 votes)
Yes, I seem to have very good luck most of the time.

Playing through Dark Souls 3 right now, and it's been incredibly frustrating farming for certain items (mostly covenant items, but a couple of weapons/armors as well). For example: According to everything I've been able to find online, the drop rate for "Proof of Concord Kept" from the Silver Knights, given my item discovery value, should be 3.1%. Or a little over 1 in every 30 kills, I should get a Proof. After spending 3 straight days farming and getting up to 9 of them, I decided to start actually tallying my kills/drops. I needed 30 total, so I had to get 21 more when I started the tally. With a drop rate of 3.1%, the chances of going 100 kills without getting a single drop is about 4.3% (0.969^100 = 0.042892139). So in attempting to farm 21 drops, I should expect to have a 100-kill-streak without a drop about one time. Instead, I had 100+ kill streaks no less than 5 fucking times by the end of my farming. My longest was 117. All told, my drop rate for those 21 Proofs ended up being 1 in 58. Nearly double the expected value of 1 in 32. And now I'm trying to get a pair of Mendicant's Staff drops from this idiot in Archdragon Peak. I'm over 100 kills now and still not even one has dropped. This is fucking asinine. And this is pretty much my experience in the vast majority of games I play. Whatever the supposed drop rate is for a rare item, I basically double or triple it and assume that's what it will actually be for me. And I can't remember an instance where I was wrong in that assumption. -_- --- PSN ID: Aristoph http://www.youtube.com/user/SotCRules ... Copied to Clipboard!

Anything that's luck based never goes my way.
Whenever I grinded in RPG games, any random drop was a pain. Getting idiotic teammates is also almost always against me in online games. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I have statistically average luck
I'll often run stats in RPGs to get an expected value when I'm grinding for drops or a rare encounter. And surely enough, I am below the expected value and above the expected value about half the time for each. (Unless the game's PRNG doesn't accurately emulate true randomness, like Etrian Odyssey 3. Fortunately, that game gives you a late game skill that forces a monster to drop all its possible drops) --- Alkaloid: It's just water in a cup. ... Copied to Clipboard!
