I'm not Canadian, but it was just a shitty joke and he even admitted as much that he wasn't being serious.
But the right is so quick to jump on things like this, it surely can't just be a middle aged politician making a dad joke, it must be 100% serious.

I doubt it. No reason not to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a bad joke that sounded better in his head. He's gotten backlash for other comments he's made about things and didn't backpedal or pretend to be joking or hyperbolic

"Peoplekind" wouldn't even make sense when of it was just some virtue signalling progressive move he could've just used something that already exists and doesn't sound like a joke like "humankind" instead.

The news story here is basically "middle aged politician bad at telling jokes"
