Critics like it. You guys seem to like it, but most other users are lukewarm. Even Game Informer gave it a 7.5.
What's the deal? Is it good or what?

It's my favorite Far Cry so far.

Well I can only speak for myself but it took me three times as long to get into my groove as compared to FC3 and FC4.

For some reason, the main character is a mute with no personality and is pretty much a chump compared to Ajay Ghale and Jason Brody.

The game is good though! Just not hooking me like the previous two games did.

Yeah, GI being an exception to most critics praise

I'm going to assume the Nazi angle drew attention from groups that don't actually like Far Cry, and then they apparently decided "We don't want to be too political about the Nazis" for some reason.

Hmm. I gave FC4 like 5+ attempts over the course of 3 years to hook me and it never did :/

I don't remember the FC3 or 4 protagonists being anything special. One's a dumb frat boy and the other... might as well be a frat boy since they don't go into his background at all.

I'm not saying it's perfect in FC5 but the writing is about on par with an FC game.

I'm only like 3 hours in but it's fun so far. I had to lock it to 30fps though because it kept stuttering from 60 to 15

The only bad thing in my opinion is when you randomly get knocked out, which can happen when you are in the middle of a mission.

I miss the collectibles in Ubi games. They took them out of ass creed origins too. If you don't like collectibles then don't play Ubi games. That's my only complaint with 5 and I know my opinion is in the minority. Awesome game otherwise, no regrets

Far Cry 5 is fun overall but has issues

1. Airplane assaults being so common after the second level of liberating a region sucks ass. You're basically forced to either always have Nick on hand to get their attention/kill them or have an MG on hand to take them down.

2. Capture Parties are bullshit. You can't avoid them no matter what unless you completely stop doing that regions activities, and the story they provide feels really clunky and forced. It's funny because Ubisoft was all about that exploration gameplay BoTW made populary, but did their damn hardest to make sure whatever fun you were having came to a grinding halt.

3. Weapon selection is terrible and they tried to hide it with a bunch of repaint weapons.

4. Stealth isn't Far Cry 2 levels of awful, but it doesn't feel as effective as it did in Far Cry 3 and 4 IMO.

5. This is just a personal gripe, but with so many characters you come across the fact they removed the encyclopedia feature seems really ill thought.

6. I didn't really care about this, but I'm going to assume that people are really upset over the microtransactions even though they're not really noticeable outside of the bullshit they did with weapon selection.

I've also seen people get "upset" over the political messages in the game (or in some cases people feel is a *lack* of political message in the game)

And this is par for the course for Far Cry, but the story has a lot of leaps in logic and overall is kind of dumb.

That being said, it's still fun. It's at worst an 8/10 game if you find the stuff above *really* annoying, but it isn't that bad overall. It's definitely not Far Cry 2 levels of tedious and annoying.

Ubisoft games are trash

In having a hell of a good time with it honestly.

IMO 4 expanded upon and improved every single element in 3 and had a really good story too. I loved it.

@Youngster_Joey_ - Your points are pretty spot on but I don't think the airplane attacks are that intrusive. You can also snipe them down, but regardless they stop being noticeable not too long after they're introduced as a thing imo (unless my game is glitching LOL).

While I put airplanes as number one, it isn't really a problem to me or even the *top* complaint, it was just the first one I thought of hearing people complain about.

The biggest problems to me were the lame weapon selection and the lack of the encyclopedia, to be honest. But they weren't enough to make me think the game was bad, they just seem like really odd decisions to make at this point.

Man for real about the planes. I tried a bonus race where you have to fly through loops, and man the plane controls suck. Died a hundred times for stupid reasons. If you barely hit a rock or branch the plane tumbles out of control like you're in space.
