I have a list made that would be appropriate to do this weekend to coincide with the final matches of VGMC. It has the potential to be quite long. I'm going to suggest Saturday at 7 or 8, assuming nobody decides to pre-empt me. (I did run a list a couple weeks ago.) If we are doing my list, everyone who can will want to help out on this one since I'm going to use rwlh's idea of a survival game -- it goes until there's a song nobody gets. (If the board manages to get all the songs I have prepared, I will be astounded.)

Maybe. But to be fair, it's also kinda run its course for me. When I know, on average, like 3 songs from easy and 2 from the rest of the game, it's not nearly as much fun any more. That's part of why I want to change up the format.

I'm meeting my friend and his godson in the city tomorrow and we're going to hang out up thru dinner. We're going to the Franklin Institute, which closes at 5, so even though I know his wife can really drag things out, 20 minutes to restaurant, 2 hours there, and half an hour home should still get me home by 8 (Eastern) at the very latest. By design, it's going to be a very long list, and require some teamwork as we progress, so please join in even if you miss the beginning.

Hello, folks, and welcome to tonight's game. I'm going to do things a little bit differently tonight, as I've hinted. So even though the basic structure of the game will remain the same -- I play a song, you guess the game and the title for points -- we're going to add a new wrinkle.

This is a survival ladder. (Credit to rwlh for the general idea)

I'm going to start off with some really easy songs. Songs you should know. Songs that mostly any B8 regular should be able to pick off. And then they're going to gradually get harder and more obscure. The game ends when the entire group fails to score on a song.

So if nobody even gets half a point on a given song, that's it. You've lost. Therefore, not only are you competing amongst yourselves for score, but you're also competing as a team against me.

I've prepared a list of 100 songs. I'm predicting you guys crash and burn somewhere about 70. Truthfully, I'd expect you wouldn't get that far because there'd be some one song that would trip you up, but fortunately for you, I'm offering extra lives whenever you get to an intermission. So every 15 songs, you'll get a 1-up. Given the difficulty at the end, I anticipate even with the extra lives, you still won't make it. But at least you'll get a little closer.

This game has the potential to take a long time, with up to 100 songs, I will be skipping frequently. I don't recommend alt-tabbing in the middle, except on the designated intermissions.

Also, regarding song selection, many of the tracks used have been in previous games. I don't care. This list was crafted very deliberately, and I didn't want to give challenging "easy" tracks to begin just because I had to hunt for stuff that hasn't been done. In fact, I think there may have been a themed list that might have doubled up on quite a few of these, but I'm too lazy to check.

So we'll be getting started in just a few.

Oh, and because this isn't the normal game, and scoring's going to be protracted, I'm probably going to amp up the points as we go. There are six tiers in the playlist. Starting with tier 3, I'll raise the score from 2 points (1 and 1) to 3 points (1.5 and 1.5), and then again to 4 points (2 and 2) at tier 5. There are no official insane tracks, but it will get insane enough by list's end, don't worry.

If you see this and the game is already underway, please join us. Even if you don't plan to contend for points, the group will need your help.
