Which epic, legendary punk band do you prefer?

I gotta give it to Ramones tbh with Misfits trailing behind by less than a hair

Misfits by a huge margin. The Clash is just completely unremarkable ambiguous "rock music". The Ramones are a band often cited for their "break neck speed" and energy, but who barely played at a mid tempo and had a static frontman; they also released the same record for the entirety of their career.

Early Misfits had hooks like you wouldn't believe, a uniform and fully realized aesthetic, and never failed to sound energetic and engrossed in their performance. Earth A.D. is pure animalistic, foaming-at-the-mouth fury and Danzig looked like a feral dog on stage; the ferocity of this era of the band was, at the time, only matched by British anarcho punks and the early crusties (and Bad Brains).

I also like early Misfits. Ramones are fine.

dumbest statement a punk fan can make. so you're saying Blitzkreig Bop & Loudmouth ate the same songs just cuz they utilize the same chords, even tho they're in different progressions. are you tone deaf? cuz I dont see how Rocket to Russia sounds like Road to Ruin, or Leave Home, or especially Too Tough to Die and on, etc.

sorry don't mean to get triggered but it's such a senseless claim that many people who never delved into the Ramones have said. knowing you being into music, I figured you were smarter than this.

I will not sit idly by while The Clash are insulted like this.

Give 'Em Enough Rope is better as a pure punk album than anything The Ramones did, and the variety of their later output is really impressive (though I don't like it all that much)

I'm not familiar enough with the Misfits to really talk about them.

I thought the Misfits were really cool when I was younger since they're a New Jersey band. Then I was in my early 20s and I told my dad I was going to a Misfits show thinking I was really cool and he told me he'd seen the Misfits with my mom, at the SAME VENUE, in the late 1970s.

I would have laughed at this a few years back, having listened to Danzig/Samhain/Misfits since the 90s. But I've been listening to the Graves era stuff again with fresh ears and it's much better than I remembered. Graves was actually a great vocalist. I think Jerry Only just isn't that great a songwriter and it took an otherwise excellent band down a few notches.

Misfits > Ramones > The Clash

I love the Misfits and Ramones to a lesser extent. I like The Clash, but not near the level as the previous two. They might have been the most musically talented and varied of the 3 though.

I'm glad there are more Michale Graves fans out there than I thought. While he's no Glenn Danzig he was a pretty good singer himself.

It's a good song but also I'm taking into account that it was written for Dave Vanian of The Damned while Danzig was still with the Misfits, then recorded with Samhain with Lyle Preslar from Minor Threat. So there's a lot of punk history in the song, and it was released at a time when that style was already on the way out by a band whose main theme was death and rebirth. I see it as basically a swan song for the early more melodic era of punk before everything changed.

London Calling is a DOUBLE ALBUM with not a single bad song on it. Not even the Beatles pulled that off. Its also considered one of the best albums of all time by literally every magazine in existence.

Totally agree. Seriously the clash aint just rock music: theyre Rockabilly, ska, reggae, and punk rolled into one. More creative and innovative than the misfits or Ramones

Topic was a success imo

The Clash who were the underdogs at the beginning somehow pulled out the most votes! God damn.

Love how many Misfits fans came out of the woodworks too. That band doesn't get enough love.

Also very surprised how little love was shown for Ramones! I thought they'd easily be the most popular of the three, haha.

Maybe I should give the Clash more of a fair chance. I haven't listened to the entirety of LC let alone most of their other work.

What's everyone's favorite Misfits album?

I'd have to go with Static Age. I wish they had kept Mr Jim on drums for longer than they did. I think he was their best drummer overall.

Misfits were only a novelty after Jerry Only revived the band. Danzig used b-movie/horror imagery to express genuinely twisted shit and malcontent emotions; listening to those records, it's readily apparent that he's a tad touched, and is using otherwise corny themes to express real inner demons.

Collection is my #1 for the alternate (and imo better) mixes of 12 Hits/Walk Among Us stuff, but I've been really into Earth AD recently.

Mr Jim was awesome; Robo, conversely, is a phenomenally inept musician.

The Clash are Punk, but did so much that they can hardly be categorized.
I have so much respect for The Clash. Not that I don't for The Misfits, or The Ramones.
But The Clash are on a whole other level.
