Honda by far. Toyota vehicles are junkier and uglier.

Nissan is my favourite though.

They're about even, but lol @ Toyotas being uglier than Hondas.

The newer Civics (especially the higher end ones) are being made fun of everywhere for being ugly, and the new Accord's front grill and taillights....happened.

The Camry looks weird too, but the Accord is on a whole different level of ugly.

Gotta be the voice of dissent: Ever since my Honda Accord left me stranded with a 4-month-old just hours out of surgery, I've sworn off Honda. I had just taken it in for its regular service (70,000 miles) and they didn't bother to check the alternator??? It was bad, so my battery went bad, and my car wouldn't go.

We're a two-Toyota family now (kind of just by chance, though), and we're very happy with both.

We like Mazda, too.

Toyota used to be great and had fun to drive and insanely reliable cars, but they've really gone down a different path the past decade and essentially nothing they have is notable anymore.

I've been driving Camrys my whole life and never had any problems outside of the 1993 Camry that I messed up.

I learned to drive with my mom's 1993 Toyota Camry LE
I Bought a 2009 Toyota Camry LE
Traded that one in for a 2013 Toyota Camry XLE Hybrid

Whats just taken in to when your car died? Either way, they typically only test the battery not the alternator. Hardly a reason to hate Accords either way.

Used to drive Toyotas (most recently a 2008 Camry) and currently drive a 2013 TL (parent company Honda). Fianc drives a 2015 Mazda6 for good measure.

Honda makes a good engine, and it shows in my TL. Can't really go wrong with either company really. On the subject of Mazda being somehow the enthusiast's choice - Lol. I drive my fianc's Mazda6 all the time and really don't see anything special about it from a dynamics perspective.

Right but you also need to breakdown what the recalls are for. The number of recalls aren't necessarily indicative of a vehicle make being junk. They are still one of the top selling makes in the country.

You are correct that they are more often than I stated; should have researched further.

Recalls totally are indicative of shoddiness if they are a regular occurrence. And being the best selling anything means nothing - look at how some of the objectively shittiest TV shows have the best ratings. Are you from Bizzaro World or something?!

at the same time though, we know there are companies that decide they won't issue a recall because that would cost more than lawsuits will

CLEARLY you've never been 4 months post-partum or you would know how irrelevant all that is. My car died; my baby was hungry and in pain (because it was only 20 minutes to home, so we would just give him pain meds there, right?); it was nighttime. Honda got itself on my bad list.

To the TC though, try out a Clarity if you can find one--any of the iterations. I love my Toyota Mirai and my hybrid Highlander. The Clarity comes in a hydrogen, a plug-in hybrid, and a traditional hybrid, I think.

In terms of reliability, they're both top notch and I'd be happy with either. Though I'd take Honda over Toyota because Toyota's interiors tend to be pretty dull (and sometimes even goofy looking) and are pretty boring to drive (relatively speaking, of course).
