Hasn't played a meaningful game in over a decade, came in cold due to a pair of Blackhawks goalie injuries that day without an ability to call anyone up on such immediate short notice. This is about as close to literally pulling someone in from the crowd to play as you can get in sports.

That's pretty damn impressive. Can't imagine the high that guy was riding the whole time and probably still is. Usually one of the injured goalies would return ASAP but I guess neither were up to it.

Hawks aren't making the 'offs this year are they? Last time I checked (admittedly a long while back) they were pretty far down in the standings. If they have a shot it would suck to lose all credible tending now, past trade deadline too.

nah, they are basically down and out this year. I don't know if they are eliminated, but they won't be in playoffs.

A team is allowed to carry two goaltenders on their starting roster on game night. In the insanely rare instance that both go down, they have to have an emergency backup, usually on the coaching team, that can fill in and play. Sometimes it's a player on the team that can play goalie also, but that's even more rare than the instance of them needing a 3rd goalie in one single 60 minute game.
