I loved F4. Just don't expect the amazing writing and choices NV had. Instead expect superior gameplay and streamlined annoyances. Im waiting for it on VR.

the beginning was cool the middle was kinda bleh

but now I am in the Follow The Road To Freedom and wow this is good

i think fallout 4 is a fun game and very underrated. one of the most disappointing main storylines I've played in a recent game, though. there's just so many misses with it

New Vegas was published by Bethesda not developed. That was done by Obsidian who most of it's staff worked on the original Fallout and Fallout 2.

Well after nearly 3 hours I finally made my characters. Since the characters are married I thought I'd make them look like my other characters that I wrote about. If only I was better at it I could make them look more distinguished but I'll just have to deal with it.

Also still waiting on mod recs.

Oh wait, I still need a build. What S.P.E.C.I.A.L should I go for?

Fallout 4 drops the ball in several areas (the main plot and dialogue especially) but in terms of just going around building settlements, shooting people in the face, exploration, some of the DLC? It's pretty decent. Dunno about mod recs, though, since I never used 'em.

Eh the exploration felt like a chore. Just like in Skyrim they boiled down the enemy choice to like four main things with a sprinkling of different enemies around the map.

And unless they improved the settlement building, it was the most garbage system in an open world game to date. There was no piece snapping at all which made aligning pieces a pain in the ass, and even when all was said and done there was no point to it. If the security rating was high enough enemies stopped attacking it... the only real function at that point became storing power suits and having a personal shop that you could easily fast travel to for supplies. And cheesing the economic system with purified water.

The settlement building definitely needed more polish, but once you've had your fill of shooting people and visiting a draugr -- err, ghoul -- dungeon for the umpteenth time, settlement building's endless creativity is one of the evergreen aspects. Also, as for people stopping attacking your villages, you can induce attacks by capturing raiders (etc.) in those cages.

But yeah, water farms are pretty necessary to get up and running -- that's one of the sad parts of the whole thing. It was even worse before cement was readily available for cheap, though.

IMMEDIATELY download the newest patch/update!!

Im gonna recommend that you dont ignore the explosives perks. Theres an automatic .45 sub machine gun called Spray n Pray. It kind of sucks until you fully upgrade it, but its Chicago Typewriter level. This thing chews through armor. It does ballistic damage plus explosive, AND it can be silenced. Its sold by a merchant named Cricket, who can be kind of hard to find (for me).

Theres also a 10m pistol that you receive as a reward for completing missions by The Railroad.

I go for one-piece armor rather than multiple pieces because its just a pain in the ass. Also, this game is WAY easier than Fallout 3 (especially New Vegas), so keep in mind that you can adjust the difficulty.

Poor guy. In terms of mod selection, if PC is a porterhouse steak, then XB1 is a Big Mac, and PS4 is a moldy half-eaten Arby's sandwich you found in a dumpster. At least you can get some gameplay tweaks I believe.

4 is at least a marked improvement over 3 in most categories. If you go into the game with the proper expectations of comparing 4 against 3 and not NV - and it seems like you are - I feel you might genuinely enjoy certain aspects of the game.

I couldn't find a SPECIAL build that I liked (especially considering how perks and stats work this time) so I used a mod that someone recommended in a different topic to get all of my special to 10.

Also is there no weapon deterioration in this game? I noticed so far that there is no weapon health bar or any other indication of the sort.

Next to BOTW, Fallout 4's exploration was sooooooo good. Every new place felt interesting and unique.

Really hoping 5 comes soon. I don't even care if it's the same shitty engine.

Thank fucking god that was the most annoying shit in 3 and New Vegas and was the reason why I was so stingy on using any weapon that was remotely good.

It's fun if you treat it as a post apocalyptic Far Cry, because the gunplay is good but the RPG mechanics are nearly nonexistent

Because you can either have crappy Bethesda and good Obsidian, or mix them together and have nothing good.

A collab with Bethesda and Obsidian would result in the best modern Fallout. Obsidian writes and has control of the RPG elements, Bethesda crafts the landscape. As long as Bethesda doesn't squash whatever other projects Obsidian would do, I don't see why this is a bad suggestion.

I've noticed some fluctuation in the save file but I take it this game doesn't have the increase size issue like the previous games?

So far I've been avoiding disturbing as much as possible but do I really need to do that now?

Edit: Apparently there's still save bloat but from what I've read it's nowhere near as bad as it was on previous consoles so I might get to actually enjoy all the DLC instead of having to pick two based on what I want.

Save bloat is definitely better on the modern games over the old ones. I can routinely run playthroughs into the several hundred hour mark. I believe they finally wised up and patched dropped enemy weapons not despawning with their host (though out of paranoia I still 'clean up' all weapons from the dead just to be safe). Plus they wised up and finally despawned ash and goo piles in the unpatched game (though occasionally they can stay permanent still).

Certain high-density areas still push the system to its limits, particularly downtown Boston; certain pockets therein are notorious crash zones. I would recommend against taking followers to high-density areas, as they heavily compound lag and potential freezes / CTDs.
