Like the World Wars, Civil Wars, how that constitution was made, the Great Depression, how Columbus found America? Right now it's all hearsay with no real good evidence.

I think most of it can be kinda phony. In history class you learn of these people and things and wonder how fake or real it is. Besides, it doesn't matter since they are dead lol.

I know my grade 11 history teacher romanticized Stalin's purges and five-year plans.... That was weird.

There are undoubtedly untruths, half-truths, and straight up lies peppered throughout the annals of history (especially the further back you go), but the broad strokes are probably accurate. At the very least, the results as they lead up to today are clear, and we can use them and what little we can piece together to help understand ourselves better.

Are those real tho? I doubt half of it is. The civil war in particular sounds like a sham story.

One time in history class I didn't study for the test but still aced it

The questions were easy, like "rate your professor on how well they covered the subject"

So far, besides Leif Erikson, I've heard Polynesians, Celts, Phoenicians, and some African prince dude who was kicked out of his country. Are there any others?

ancient egyptians. some people think egyptians lived in the grand canyon and buried treasures there

these are all legends though. the only people who can be proven are Erikson and Columbus and Erikson was before Columbus. Also Columbus never even set foot on North America. he was in the Caribbean on islands

History is written by the victors, or the enemies of both the victors and the losers, so we probably don't learn the truth about 9/10 of the historic conflicts we learn about tbh. Except the Mongols. Nearly everyone else would shirk away from being remembered as the dudes who built mountains of bones out of conquered city's inhabitants, but the Mongols own that shit.

History is written by those who write and based on their knowledge and sources and biases.

WWII eastern front was largely based German officers and veterans since they were the sources we had available due to the cold war. It wasn't until a few major works came out that the historical tone started to shift as new sources became available.

Vietnam you likely know the history from the American stand point, not the winner's side.

The Spanish Civil war is mostly written by the supporters of Republican Spain, not Nationalist Spain.

Going back in time, the Crusades and the Peloponnesian War are historic examples of being written by the losers.
