I have gotten 3 summons.

The first one was for town court (basically drunk driving charges), both the cases I was supposed to be called for settled out of court the day I reported, so I only wasted an hour or so of my night.

The second one was for county court, which I didn't mind because it is literally one block from where I work. However I had a high number and they didn't bother calling me in.

The third one was for district court (also not far from where I work, but that one requires you to be on call for 3 months), but the backlog for cases was so full that they didn't get to the case that I was supposed to serve on within the time limit so they never called me in.

Report. I got out of the first one because of work. The second I didn't even try. I was the first chosen. It was a very interesting case.

I got one every year I was active in the marines.
And every year after. I even got one when I became a deputy and I had to go and say, hey I deal with this guy on a regular basis due to work, I can't be more bias about his case.

I wish I could exchange summons with Jen. I have been asked 2 or 3 times and my mom always got them to back off. but they were supposed to put me on a no call list after the first time. she told them my condition and that I would be a horrible juror. and they wanted me to travel to Seattle to do it, early in the morning. I worried it was a murder trial cause sometimes murder trials get jurors from out of town or county so they aren't as biased about a local crime.

I have only followed through with 2 in the last 13 years. The first one and the most recent. Both times I was released via phone call without ever having to appear.

Every year or two between I always got out. For the first part it was financial difficulties. I wasnt making a lot of money and couldnt afford to go.

When I could afford it, kind of, I still used the same response. They finally called me to grill me about it, and I told them my company only pays for sitting on a jury. If I have to appear and am not selected, they do not pay.

They didnt believe me. I had to get HR to send a letter head copy of our Jury Duty reimbursement policy.

I said the same thing the next year. They called. I told them about the previous year and that nothings different.

They then stopped sending requests for 6 years.

I think they realized I switched companies and tried me again.

Jury duty where I am is only every 6 years. I'm sure that is different in other areas of the country though.

Tell them the truth. I have health issues that would make serving on a jury difficult for short cases, and impossible for long ones. When my issues flare up I'll be in so much pain for days at a time that I cannot concentrate on anything.

When I've received a notice, I've always complied with instructions. Only once did I actually have to show up and that was annoying as fuck since it was a federal courthouse like 90 minutes away in a downtown area. Only solace is that I wasn't picked.

The cases on the docket were boring, too. Both of them were workers comp claims where an employer was trying to weasel out of paying an employee who got injured while working for them. Honestly, I half-wish I skipped it since apparently they don't even bother sending out fines to most no-shows and apparently the fine was maybe like $50 (although that might have just been for state court stuff? Maybe federal is more expensive)

At any rate, I must be in the sucker pool because I've been called countless times over the years and had to show once but almost all of my relatives have never been called even once.

tbh, had it been a criminal case, I was going to go with far-left zealot who believes that the cops only exist to persecute minorities. Granted, I live in a state with a lot of people who believe that for real so I wouldn't stand out whereas I'd probably get busted if I tried to use a nutty evangelical gimmick.
