because most people agree that screaming at video games shouldn't get people paid exorbitant amounts of money each month

not just that, but essentially everything is carbon copies of each other; what does it matter when x plays game A, when y plays game A and people argue about "X is so much better" or "Y has gone down in quality" when there's no quality to begin with

so many people say they just like let's plays or something as "background noise" but i prefer shows or music as background noise, not people autistically screeching at a video game. so many times have I seen people say they like to put videos like that on to relax, but what's relaxing to me is actually playing the fucking game myself so I can enjoy it on my own, I don't need to be told something is good or bad by a voice online, and either agree to fit in or disagree to have rabid fans attack me.

it's as if the people who eat this shit up need to defend it by telling other people how they should feel, because there's no actual defense for watching people yell at computer screens for hours a day. but it's fine because "why do you care what other people do"

Its mostly because I don't care about their opinions. So no I'm not going to watch someone dissect a 12 minute Spongebob episode for 30 minutes, listen to inane banter when I just want to know how to finish this shrine, or some useless glitch on Mario 64.

YouTube is for music. While I don't dislike yourubers, except maybe one, I just find most of them useless.

I can get people not liking stuff like the Pauls or even PewDiePie. I'm fairly confident that the only reason pews is a millionaire is because he started doing it before the likes of Markiplier and JackSepticEye came along, as both of them do it much better. There are plenty of let's players out there who are leagues better than pdp but he did it first so they can't get any views while he makes millions of dollars for making an ass out of himself on the internet.

But it also doesn't bother me that much. That is how the free market works. There have been plenty of shows and celebrities that I thought were completely useless but managed to be popular anyway and make tons of money. A lot of people would complain about South Part just as I do about PewDiePie so I get it, quality is subjective.

That said I also hate it when these internet celebrities become too popular. I've seen a lot of YouTubers who, once successful, just stopped shaving, getting haircuts, and put on a lot of weight because they obviously don't need to leave the house anymore. They become basement trolls praying to the mantra of "Like, subsribe, comment below, patreon plez".

The ones that I really don't like are the ones that steal content from other people and monetize it. A good example is channels that record cutscenes from video games and monetize it. You didn't make the game, you didn't supply the voice over, you shouldn't be profiting from other people's work.

But overall I like YouTube. Anybody is allowed to upload and there's so much content that anybody can find something they like somewhere.

who are you to say what should and shouldn't get people paid and how much it should get them paid? if people are willing to watch and others are willing to pay as a result of who watches then why should what they get paid matter at all to you? If they got paid less would your life change any?

I also don't see the point in watching them daily, as if they're an actual show.

Youtubers are the Gaming equivalent of reality TV. Period.

I watch the odd video here and there, and think some youtubers are funny (Mr.Fruit for one) but I haven't watched a YouTube video in months.

Actually one of the YouTubers I watch talked about his transition to being a full time YouTuber. He first did it as a side hobby and as the channel became financially successful he quit his old job and now treats his channel as his job. Obviously he puts in a lot of effort if he treats it as a job.

I do think there is jealousy, but I wouldn't overly prescribe "skill" to popular Youtube channels. There's always a lot of luck in such things.

In addition, I do think that it's unfortunate that Youtube does reward low-effort videos, but that's more of a problem with what people watch, so it's just as unfortunate as low-effort TV shows, etc. so I don't fault Youtube stars for it.

Some youtubers are incredibly annoying. Quite a few are actually. It has nothing to do with money they are making either. Their personalities are just really annoying. If I saw someone like that in person talking like that I would be annoyed by them too.

I am indifferent. I thought it was stupid when those you tubers had meltdowns a few years ago when they all of a sudden couldnt make hundreds of thousands of dollars for their stupid opinions.

absolutely not. bitter people should wise up and try to practice some self worth if they're unhappy with their current situation, maybe create a set of goals to find a way to make money that they actually enjoy instead of resigning a majority of their life to drudgery. you have no right to be angry simply for the fact that someone was smart enough to figure out how to economically sustain themselves without being miserable. maybe take that anger and make some changes instead of trying to drag everyone else down with you.

It's not so much that we don't lke them. It's that some of these people have no idea how absurd they are. Honestly the internet is full of people that are really just out there. It's hard to like people who are really morally inept and mean too.

I don't watch YouTubers who rant or blog about politics or whatever opinion they have on the hot news topic of the week. I can kind of see why some people would dislike this type.

i can listen to acg because he's just genuinally trying to be passionate and artistic about video game design. A lot of what he says is fluff too but at least he's trying. I can also listen to other people who are just learning to play music or other funny stuff sometimes. Different guides etc. But a huge percentage of stuff out there is junk.

Trying to find people with actual talent and intelligence is not easy. Just real people.

This is the issue with the millennial generation is that if you start thinking there is something wrong with people, when they do absurd things, they start thinking something is wrong with you, like you have a disorder or something. No there is something seriously wrong with some people. They will bully you too in really warped ways and spin it and abuse people. There are some whacko nutjobs out there. And we wonder why some kids today really have issues. When people can't recognize certain things that are blatantly obvious.

I like a lot of Youtubers, but there's some things some do that I can't stand. Clickbait/spoilers in titles and thumbnails, having every video title BE IN ALL CAPS FOR EVEN THE MOST MUNDANE STUFF, repeating themselves and dragging out the video so they can put more ads. Its also just off putting when you can tell that someone doesn't actually care about the quality of their content and that they're just doing it for money. Plus a lot of Youtubers just have obnoxious personalities.

And while some are shady, some flat out lie like that Sernando guy who keeps making "I GOT GTA 6 EARLY" videos, which is gross when you have an audience of kids. No big deal though, I just don't watch channels like that.

The mainstream "corporate friendly" youtubers that get all the promotion from youtuber and well corporations are bland and annoying, but youtube is fucking huge and there really is something for everyone. My favorite youtuber is a guy named Tyrannicon. Smallish channel and he'll probably never get much bigger but he is one of the few people out there that has a similar sense of humor as me.

The point being that if you're willing to dig through the junk and support smaller youtubers you'll find people and content you enjoy. If all you ever do is watch whatever is being promoted by youtube then you'll fucking hate it since you're basically just watching a live action version of reddit.

Yup. Very few people make any money at all from youtube. The lucky ones make enough to live off of it, and only a very, very small amount of content creators ever become rich or e-famous. This isn't helped by the fact that youtube is constantly putting the screws to small youtubers and making it easier for the big channels to stay big.

Yeah, that's more or less what I'm getting at. A big youtuber you can weather youtube's BS, but as a smaller one you're pretty much fucked.
