Arguably not even technically a horror movie, but the first 40 minutes of Lost Highway is extremely unnerving.

I remember a few years ago when people on GameFAQs were telling me it was like the most disturbing movie ever, so I watched it, and was pretty disappointed at how tame it was.

I can see how it would be disappointing if it was hyped up before you watched it. I've seen the movie maybe a dozen times by now and it still creeps me out, but I was a kid the first time I saw it and it stood out.

Also, the head shaking is symbolic of what you do when you're trying to wake up from a bad dream, so there's a creepy context for it in the film outside of just looking weird.

the opening of The Witch had me feeling pretty tense, especially because I thought that she might sexually abuse the baby

I know that it was unlikely, but it looked pretty messed up

Yeah, my first post was a bit misleading. The movie itself was pretty solid and I definitely enjoyed it, but the hype just killed it for me. My apologies for the misleading post.

The scene in The Exorcist where she stabs herself in the crotch with a crucifix and then tries to get her mother to lick her always makes me cringe. It's not exactly scary but it's very disturbing.

I've never seen Candyman, but Tony Todd is amazing. Is it worth watching even now?

He really is. He's one of the few actors to appear in three Star Trek series all as different characters (Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and The Next Generation).
