I mean idk what I'm paying for, why are some games free to play online and others you need ps+? What's the difference between Warframe and Battlefield 1 that is worth $60 a year?

They raised the price here by $20 annually, in spite of the fact it's slower and less reliable than Xbox Live... Now they're removing PS3 and Vita games. I ditched my sub in January 2017 and haven't missed it. I pay for Xbox Live, but it's actually worth it to me because you keep the 360 games forever and the network is superior. I'd need one, so if I didn't have an Xbox, I'd probably begrudgingly pay for PS+ again.

free-to-play games dont need PS+ to play online. the difference between Warframe and Battlefield 1 is that Warframe is free-to-play.

if the game is free to play, ala warframe, you do not need PS+ to play it. this is unlike xbox live, where free to play games require the multiplayer subscription to play. Battlefield 1 is not a free to play game, despite it's microtransactions, (am I right fellow gamers) so it requires the online fee.

other features of PS+ include the monthly "free" games and cloud saves.

you'd think it would be the other way around.
I understand games like FFXIV because they already have their own subscription fee, but Sony seems hellbent on making ps+ a bad deal for its customers. I wouldn't be surprised if they raise the prices again with the ps5.

It was a lot better when it first came out and gave out games that were actually relevant and was optional smh

For a lot of people Bloodborne was the reason to get a PS4.

Didn't this really essentially start with MMOs like Everquest charging a monthly fee to play online? I seem to remember having to pay for Dreamcast's online service when it initially released also.

But basically, you get like, what, 2 to 3 games a month for free on PS4? Even if you're not interested in most of them, it can't hurt to try if you've got nothing else going on, so it's also sorta like rentals. I like being able to try a game without fear of wasting anything but time I suppose without trying to read up on a game and get a sense of it first.

While a lot of what is on offer tends to be indie farts, I don't think a year has gone by where I didn't at least get a couple of games I liked out of it.

I don't have the space. Because the PS4 stops working once you drop below 30 gigs and every game these days seems to take up 50gb minimum. So I literally can't.

I hate how you can buy Red Dead Revolver on the PS Store but Redemption is only available on their crappy streaming service. Xbox Live Arcade, even on the 360, had (and still does despite losing some gems over the years) much better selection of games, especially when it came to just downloading full ass recent games and not just indie or older gen games.

I used to play multiplayer games on PS3 a fair bit but I never played online consistently enough to justify paying for PS+. So I don't pay for it and now I don't play online on Playstation at all, I just got a PC and get all my multiplats on there. Still keep the PS4 for exclusives though.

Its too bad, there's some cool looking PS4 exclusive multiplayer games, but its just not worth paying the admission price just for those handful of games.

it should just be called "PS4 Tax"

A business is going to do whatever they can do to make money. That's why business exists, to make money. Microsoft and Sony didn't start up to put a big smile on your face. If you want to point the finger at someone, point the finger at the gaming community. Gamers, who buy into this, are why it is successful. Gamers could have refused to pay, and the service would have remained free. When you reach for your credit card, Sony or Microsoft doesn't care if you're doing it with a smile or a grumble. Your money is all they see. If you will pay for online, they will charge you for online. Of course Sony would do the same after seeing how successful it was. Gamers bought horse armor, gamers paid for online gameplay, gamers paid for $5 costume packs and bought Legendary Editions for $200 that are actually just the complete game that was available at launch.

The value you get in games for one month is typically as much as it costs to subscribe for a year. To a real gamer it's an excellent service. Now if you're a normie and all you play is Call of Duty then yeah I can see how it would be annoying.
