Don't click any of the mines.

Click anywhere on the board a bunch of times until you clear half of it in just under five seconds.

Then you can continue playing strategically.

Failure of doing so means you're not a professional minesweeper.

Go into custom, choose the biggest size board possible(just put in 99x99, the game will do the rest).

Set number of mines to 200.

if you've already marked all mines touching a square, if you middle click that square you open up the remaining squares.

so if you have a '1' and you've already tagged the one mine touching it, middle-click the '1' and every square touching it except the marked square will 'open'.

A great tip and massive time saver. Alternatively, if you left and right click at the same time, you execute the same command.

Don't click corners. Especially don't start in a corner. Your first click will never be a mine (unless you're playing a build from like 95), so start in the middle.

You'll lose to 50-50s a lot. Like, when you're very good at the game, all your losses will be to 50-50s.

Your win rate will never be good. If you can approach 50% wins on expert after thousands of games, you're doing very well.

I don't think I ever got over 20% on expert. I would click 10 times or so around the board before I played the game hoping to open stuff up so a ton of lost early games. My best time was I think 74 seconds on expert though anything under 100 I felt ok with.

I usually average 140 seconds. My win rate after 5000 games is 28%, but I didn't reset my record after actually learning to play so about a thousand of those games are bad data.
