I hear it all the time how people are content with $45k/year, how you're doing great. $45k is livable, that's about it. You're living in a boring flyover state, small house, and used car. If you want to really live as a single male, you need to making atleast $70k

the reason this topic is silly is partially because the difference between 45 and 70k is negligible any where that isn't flyover country

That's called living. Nothing extravagant. $45k is nothing to be grand about, always strive to be above that.

How's the nightlife? Is there a good amount of women? Yeah it's good at 23, but you'd be bored outta your mind living in a family suburb.

i don't really like this mentality. Don't live above your means but always strive for more. Just because you won't take any of it when you eventually die doesn't mean you shouldn't want to live the life you have left to its absolute fullest. Doing "just enough" because "meh ima die some day anyway" is depressing as fuck.

Columbus is a huge college town with lots of young people and we have good nightlife. I wasn't living downtown or anything, more like ~15 minutes away.

Oh ok, that's different and I'd say you're doing well. I bet there's numerous extracurricular activities too. No point in being content with $45k and young if you're bored as heck. It's like a retirement salary imo.

I know I couldn't be content with $45k since I'm a car guy
