Ryuji isn't dumb in this arc at all. Like he's far dumber in other arcs than this one. This one is Morgana throwing a random hissy fit and it annoyed the crap out of me because if I could make Joker say stuff I would've solved the problem in two minutes.

Well in all fairness, part of the reason I dislike it so much is that I also thought the Hawaii trip was a total waste of time and disliked it a lot, so I was ready to get back to the actual main plot and then got this instead

Also what was that part where you're chasing the Monamobile around Mementos? I'm not even using that as an indictment against Morgana's character, it's just baffling that the sequence exists at all.

There's a bit of cultural context you're missing here. Fast food companies in the western world treat their employees disposably but it's not anywhere near the extent that companies in Japan do this. Actually, it being a fast food company in Persona 5 is completely incidental. It could have been almost any kind of company. Japan's work laws are draconian to the point where death by overwork is not surprising. It's even got its own term:
