Obviously if you're not in love with Automata's storytelling, then anything else might appear better in comparison, especially if it's from the same series

I just remembered getting the first one as a gift a long time ago. I hardly remember the story and I despised the gameplay with a bloody passion.
Didn't even bother playing through multiple times to get the real ending. I beat it once and chucked that shit somewhere in the woods.

I gave Automata a chance because it was being developed by Platinum and I like Platinum, for the most part.

when I first started Nier I was like wtf because it was released in 2010 and played worse than god of war 1 on ps2 but the music, characters, and story really immersed me and I had a great time with it. the second playthru is well worth it and the last two endings are worth doing as well. for some reason I did almost every quest available and I can't explain why, I just had a lot of fun with it
