Only took a week to get it which was nice considering they said it would take two

Used it for the first time today to watch Darkest Hour which I enjoyed, tomorrow I might go watch that Three Billboards flick.

I dunno how long moviepass is gonna be able to maintain this business model but I plan on getting my moneys worth out of it while its around

I'd imagine they have some kind of deal with the theaters for reduced prices or possibly free. They just want to get more people into the building to purchase snacks at a 300% markup.

Saw Annihilation today. I liked the movie but it was freaking weird. Visually it was really cool, much more artsy-fartsy than I expected. Its one Ill have to think on for a while.

That seems cool but I love 3d and you can't upgrade tickets. I don't go too often but my job offers tickets for like a lil over 8 bucks so I find that deal nice.

Many of the main theaters have $5 ticket days, and most have $8 tickets before 4pm.

Now $10 isn't much, but I think the average person only goes to the movie once a month or so, and if they go on a $5 day.....then the $10 pass is doubling the money they would get.

I maaaaybe...go to the movies once every 3 months at most, and always on a tuesday for $5. Pretty much just watch the marvel/super hero movies (but not all of them...like didn't see Justice Leage....wish I hadn't seen black panther).

I'll totally be there for the infinity stones though!!

Point is, the $10 moviepass thing wouldn't save me money at all, and most of my friends don't spend that much either. Heck the people that use Meetup.com (couple of groups) get together for most movies that are geek like (dark tower...which I still haven't seen etc), but always on Tuesdays (for the $5 deal) and.....even with going to pretty much all geeklike movies, still rarely go more then twice a month.

So yeah, if you were currently going to the moves more then two times......and not sneaking in to see other movies like many people do (not me, 1 2-3 hour show at a time is plenty), you could certainly save money with the moviepass.

I think it's more likely though that the theaters will actually make more money as it is a guarranteed $10 a month from people who may have spent nothing, or maybe $5 or so...it also gives discounts on popcorn/soda etc....which to be honest is the only freaking way they are EVER going to get me to buy any of that over priced stuff.

Smart tip, if your theater serves Ice Cream....usually it's far cheaper then the popcorn..and about the same price you would get from a baskin robins (double scoop was $4 at the local theater when I saw BP. Meanwhile a large popcorn was llike $7-8 (don't remember...but wasn't paying that much! A soda I think was 5$?

I'm a bad person, I snuck in 2 cans of soda in my coat...hehe. I mean...I'm not paying $5 for crappy carbinated soda from a machine. At least sell good soda from bottles etc if your gonna charge that freaking much!!

Today I brought in a big thing of orange tic tacs and a large bag of beef jerky

watched Game Night today with @Nursereena

It was her idea and I was skeptical because I looked it up and saw it was directed by the guys that did the Burt Wonderstone movie which I thought was awful

This one ended up being pretty damn funny though. Jason Bateman basically played Jason Bateman like he does in most films, but the writing was good and the supporting cast was just hilarious

Baskin Robbins would be higher quality. Also some theaters have freestyle machines which is always worth the price.

I wholeheartedly agree. They claim that data gathering about what films people see and where, along with their ability to advertise specific movies to users will help them gain revenue along with dues. Time will tell.

Im paying $8 a month and Ive seen 3 movies in less than a week so Im in no position to complain

Theaters probably agree to go along with it because they don't really make much money off of ticket prices, but most of their revenue comes from concession stand purchases. So getting the customer into the theater is no longer a problem, and they're more likely to buy concession once they make it in.

I heard they're also trying to go after targeted ads from restaurants near the theater. Honestly that doesn't sound sustainable either so just enjoy it while it lasts I guess.

Why were some of the bigger chains against moviepass if they're buying the tickets full price from theaters?

Just finished Pacific Rim 2

Movie wasnt perfect but I liked it a lot more than the first one. It had a lot more personality than the first film, there wasnt quite as much action but the fighting scenes were more fun and felt like they mattered more.

In the end the plot was a little flimsy and it kinda felt like part 2 in a trilogy, but I dont think anyone is really going to a movie like this for a compelling story anyways.

I also really loved the tiny Jaegar

That was filmed about 20 mins from where I live. It was a pretty big deal for that town. It's super small.

I can imagine considering how many big names were in the film. Would be wild wandering around your small town and you see Peter Dinklage and Woody Harrelson just hanging out on the sidewalk

Ready Player One

Movie definitely had its ups and downs. Some parts were really fun but others really dragged and felt extremely cliched and formulaic

I think the best parts were the action scenes with lots of pop culture references, and their visit to The Shining world, but a lot of the stuff in between just was not interesting and the movie tried to be really dramatic in some moments but just didnt really pull it off for me. They never gave me a compelling reason to care about the main character, his love interest, the creator of the Oasis, or the entire world of the film itself.

Even though it was really vapid it was still a fun flick. Doubt Id want to watch it a second time though

I got MP in Feb and I kinda like it. It definitely helps that a movie ticket in NYC costs nearly double the monthly MP fee lol. I've been a little bored with the movie scene lately but I think part of that is how only big franchise sequels get most of the focus, and I've found myself paying more attention to smaller releases now.

Sad to hear that about Ready Player One...I'll prob still go see it next Tuesday though.

You might wanna try Isle of Dogs, I've been hearing good things about it. Not gonna see somethign you need to read subtitles for in the theater though myself.

Oh, and if you are even slightly prone to depression, don't go see Oh Lucy.

It's billed as a comedy (or at least we thought it was going to be one based on the trailer).

It is NOT a comedy.

It can make any movie you watch after it seem like a comedy in comparison though.

Tomb Raider

Pleasantly surprised by this one, but my expectations were quite low going in. The choreography of all the action scenes was done really well, like they were all really intense but also easy to follow.

Without a doubt one of the better game to film interpretations.

Can you only go to one a day? I would want to get it, but I don't go to the movies enough. I would say this would make me go more, but I'm lazy, and don't have days off work, anyway. Only Sunday. And I'm busy from 2pm-8pm. If we get another person at work, I'll get maybe one day a week of from work... unless I have to work on base. I think I hate my job right now...

Only once per day and you can only see a particular movie once with the pass.

You also can only get regular tickets with it, no 3D showings or double features. Some folks have been banned from the service because they get themself a discount ticket and try to use the leftover money on the card towards food

So, like, you can see any movie. But once you've seen it, you can ever go using the card again? And why do you mean by leftover money? I don't think I understand the card...

The card they send you is essentially a reloadable MasterCard. When you check in for a film they load the card with the amount needed for a regular ticket at that theater

And yeah say you used the pass to see Infinity War, if you wanted to watch the movie again a different day youd have to use your own money out of pocket since you already used a pass for it. And you can only use the movie pass once per day, even if you want to see a second but different movie

Should be noted that alot of theaters don't really check to see if you have a ticket once you have entered the movie area, so alot of people just go watch a second movie if they want.

Honestly it's not enough savings for me to ever do that (I really don't want to watch 4+ hours of movie...and I'd be thirsty/hungry etc......buying concessions would totally cost more then paying for another movie.

Also even if you only went 1 day a week, and saw 1 movie a day, that is still 4 movies a month. I guess there may be more then that on average some people would want to see, but it's still a great value at that point.

Even for me at $5 a pop for a movie, that would be $20 worth of movies a month. Cept there is totally never 4 movies I would want to watchc in a month.

Ah. I see. So, the banning came when people went of a day when the ticket was cheaper, like for example $5 ticket day instead of $8. And the try to use the $3 remaining on the card for snacks? That's cool, I guess. Congrats!

It was much easier when I went with my wife (hehe), but yeah, I usually bring in a couple cans of soda or some water etc. Don't usually bring in snacks as it's only 2 hours. Really don't have the stamina to watch more then that in a theater, even with the more comfy seats.

Anything much over 2 hours and I'll watch from home, it's way more comfy.

I generally only watch special movies I can't wait to see in the theater....like guardians of the galaxy, or of course Avengers Infinity stones coming up.

I'll probably see ready player one next tuesday just because I just read the book.

Since I only watch movies I can't wait to see, that means I only watch then when they are just released, and honestly I can't remember any time when two movies I really wanted to see where released at the same time/week.

So no incentive for me to ever sneak into another movie so far.

The only time its ever worth spending on something at a concession is if it's like AMC and they have the freestyle machine.

So, i have this card that you earn points on for the theater. 20 - free small drink, 40 - free medium popcorn(popcorn and drink might be swapped. Can't remember. I know it was small then medium and those two), 60 - free movie ticket. But it expires really fast. Well, I had bought a ticket, and used the card, so I got a free ticket. So, my best friend and I decided to split the ticket cost and we would use the ticket we bought and the free one. But they said she couldn't use it because it had to be me. So, I wanted to use it. And he said I couldn't because Inhad just gotten it. I said fine, then let me buy another one. And he said I couldn't because I already bought one. Anyway, I gave my ticket to my best friend and told her to go in. I then went outside and to the side door. It was open a little because it didn't close fully for whatever reason. I walk in. It was actually the correct side, too. I regret nothing.

You couldn't buy a full price ticket either? Either way it was the right thing.

Yeah. I don't understand why they wanted to be jerks that day. But it all worked out.

It was probably an employee just wanting to pretend to have some kind of power.
