Pretty interesting read. Basically, the underdog rising to the top is something that black youth culturally identify with as a theme. On the other hand, a lot of other races like DBZ too so I'm also not too sure why black guys are questioned about it in particular. Interesting excerpt though:

It's not just black people that like the show though, it's universally loved all around. With that said, I'm willing to admit I used to like the show due to nostalgia. When you actually look at the series as a whole, it's not very good. The only one I probably do enjoy most is probably the first Dragon Ball, but that's mostly for the humor.
