The only reason I enjoy Gamefaqs is because of how toxic it is tbqh

reddit's closed system is a hit or miss depending on the subreddit.
some are pretty top notch & others are just no.

gamefaq's open system blends the shit with the ok.

The dark parts of reddit are more nasty and extreme than here by far, probably because of the strict moderation here.

The troll density on the social boards is high here though, and because there's no downvoting it is always visible.
On the game boards, you get a lot of gatekeeping, fanboys and general shit-talking, but also there is quite a bit of good content there to be found for most games.

I think it depends on the board. There's some rude and hostile people, but I think most people are at least somewhat reasonable, at least on places like CE. The console boards are the bad ones, its filled with kids insulting each other for no reason.

I dont choose to use ignore but that feature practically eliminates the vast majority of issues with toxicity here.

The specificity of most subreddits is the only thing that gets me past the non-chronological nature of it.

We are bad. The trolls and enablers are in a constant ouroboros with each other both with same intentional lack of self awareness blaming each other.

If people honestly wanted trolls to go away they'd stop responding to them. But they won't. The enablers are just as thirsty as the trolls for drama and attention.

Gamefaqs was very toxic 10-12 years ago. Mainly, because there weren't many gaming forums around at the time and alot of boards developed their own bullying hierarchy. So new users were not encouraged to stick around. (PotD)

I can't entirely disagree. Just off the top of my head, the Final Fantasy Brave Exvius GameFAQs board kinda sucks because half the topics are just pull bragging. The subreddit bans those as low-effort content so you get actually useful discussions and hard data and surveys and shit.

Reddit game boards can be a little echo chamber-y but the GameFAQs game boards are just filled with content-less bullshit that you need to sift through if you want to see any discussions of note.

It depends on the sub, really. A lot of them are fine and when they are specifically about a said subject you can get a lot of good information.

But then there's shitty ones and openly toxic bullshit that takes years and numerous incidents before they finally get banned. At least here, for example, we don't have shit like r/uncensorednews which was an open neo Nazi sub that finally got shut down recently
