FAST. TRRYYY FASTING NOW. I've just started this. Oh my god. I think I found a fix. And I will feel a lot better about my body.

On a side note, I was thinking to myself, "I wonder what's more motivating. To tell someone to not eat. Or to tell someone to fast?" Is it easier to think that you have to do something or to think that you have to stop doing something? Hmmmm....

Tbh I don't know if that's sarcasm or if some depressed people don't like to eat. I stuff myself all the time. You can come around to fasting. Eventually someone might try it. At least I'm bringing awareness to this possible fix.

It does help, but I'm a very active person (exercise daily, weights + cardio most days) and have a job that's a bit labour intensive. I know you can just eat a shit ton of calories in one go and then fast the rest of the time, it just seems like after a while I get hit with a whole new set of issues and physical performance sharply declines.

Basically, I get to choose between either feeling shitty mentally or feeling shitty physically. Great, lol.

Well I haven't felt the physical effects from it. How long do you fast? The most I've done is 24 hours. I'm going to go for a longer time today.

It's sarcasm. Depression manifests itself in different ways. Some people eat more cause of it, some people eat less. I'm in the latter category and obviously fasting wouldn't help

That's just it, you don't know how it is for others. You only know how depression makes you behave. Some people have depression for reason they know, and some just are. For the former the fasting won't do shit if they are in wheelchair for life, for example.

For me the depression makes me eat junk like doughnuts and forget to eat actual meals or drink water. Me not eating for 8-24 hours is not uncommon, or getting dehydrated.

Insulin resistance does not have a causality relation with depression and there's no evidence that suggest fasting will fix either of those. Stop spreading lies.


But if you fast then your body has to use the glucose for energy first which would kind of be a fix for insulin resistance. Also, fasting is known to induce pleasurable experience, and so is meditation. And you have me as anecdotal evidence. Just trying fasting for 30 hours. See what happens.

Could be relative too. I never really lived life without eating at least like 1500 calories in a day (and that's when I go on a diet). I'm probably usually at around 4000-5000. Maybe this is normal for people and I'm just now feeling it.

If you have low body fat then its not advisable to fast for long periods of time unless you do have insulin resistance or you do a 24-48 hour fast once a while to get a lot of bdnf released. But fasting for 16-24 hours once a week is good for your mind and for autophagy.

I inadvertently fasted during the beginning stages of my depression due to simple lack of appetite. Over a course of two years. Was 308lb, now 180.
spoilers: still depressed asf. yes i've tried psychology, therapy, and a legion of medications and different living circumstances. the current set i'm on are the best so far, but they don't cure it, just make it more tolerable at best.
