A mother has made her children walk four miles to school through the snow after she found out that they had been rude to their bus driver.

The mother, in Harrow, Ontario, said she took matters into her own hands after the school called to report their behaviour. Who was Sir William Henry Perkin? She posted pictures of them on their way to school on Facebook. She wrote: My boys have been bad for their bus driver and I got a call from the school yesterday that drew a line for me!

So this morning we did a 7km walk to show them what everyday will be like for them when they kicked off the bus. Shit just got real for them. 2 hours later they made it.

The boys have learned to be nice to their bus driver in future as a result of their public humiliation. Their sign said: Being bad and rude to our busdriver! Moms makin us walk.

Speaking to CBC afterwards she said that her older son had learned his lesson. However, it took a second day of walking for the younger brother to get the message.

Some people reported the mother to the Childrens Aid Society which said that it was a logical consequence for the children to be made to walk to school for acting up.

However, Tina Gatt, manager of the local office, said: I dont want to judge or pretend to know all of the nuances of this situation with this parent, but [its] something to consider when we think about putting signs on kids that says what the bad behaviour is and putting them in a position where you take their picture and put it on social media.

Well, on one hand she is giving them a quick and simple punishment that I'm almost positive will teach them not to be rude again. However, at the same time she is taking pictures of them holding up signs to basically embarrass them on social media -- which, in this day and age, it is not unheard of for kids that young to know about well. I'm not a child psychologist, but I'm reserved on what kind of positive effect that will bring for them.

Will it tho?

Or will it just teach them not to get caught/blamed?

You're teaching them that if you don't follow the rules you will be punished, not why the rules matter.

Well, maybe. But she could also just explain to them that it's wrong to do such things without the need to shame them publicly. Kids aren't just "kids," in a sense. They're human too, and they also feel shame, and ridicule hurts them just as much.

Like I said, I'm no expert so I could very well be wrong.

That's the point. They ridicule the bus driver and people on the bus. Now they know what it's like.

Theyre not ashamed about being rude tho, they ashamed about being paraded around on social media.

Reminds me of a kid I used to know called Micheal who was a weasely liar.

He used to break windows and steal things and then blame other people. Because he knew if he was caught he'd get beaten up or punished, so he just got good at manipulating people.

He never (to my knowledge) actually ever became a good person, he just became good at being a bad person.

I actually knocked him out once because he was trying to blame a bunch of shit he did on me. He sliced a bunch of tires in a parking lot and then bike-locked a bunch of bikes so the owners couldn't get out. When people found out for some reason he tried to finger me.

His parents didn't understand dicipline they just understood smacking him around if they found out he did something wrong.

Kids need the whole thing. People act like it's all a matter of "Bust their asses when they fuck up and you're golden." when a lot of the fuckups on the street got their asses busted...but they didn't get taken to the park and the other positive attention as well.

Still unnecessary.

She doesn't need to LABEL her kids in anyway... Just making them do the walk would have sufficed and almost guaranteed they were more respectful to their bus driver in the future.

Probably the same effect when a kid raises his hand in class and gives a wrong answer in front of all of his friends and peers. It sucks, but in the grand scheme of things, is it really that big of deal?

Geez, how did our kids even make the walk to school without all the pedos snatching them up? My only problem is that she publicly shamed them. Giving them the consequence of walking to school if they were kicked off the bus? Perfectly fine. Screw the people who called Children's Aid on that family. Good on them for saying that it was "a logical consequence" of acting up.

I hope the mom supervised them on that walk and she wasn't just there to take a picture to post on social media and get tons of likes.

No parent should be so public about punishing their kid. There is also the danger aspect of having your kids walk so many miles on their own in the snow.

Ultimately, any punishment for children is useless in the long run unless the kids really understand the direct results of their actions and its effects on others. Posting their punishment on social media doesn't do that. That is the part that just doesn't sit well with me. Attention grabbing over this sort of thing just seems kind of classless.
