The Walking Dead's Khary Payton who plays King Ezekiel has taken the Lauren Cohan drama to new heights as he's took to instagram to DEFEND Lauren Cohan in her months long dispute over a greater pay raise to stay on the show.

The 36 y/o is negotiating her contract with AMC and was offered a "modest" raise but that wasn't enough as she is fighting for EQUAL PAY against her male co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus!!

Khary then posted on his instagram with her picture that said "Pay the woman"

She's been a 7 year staple on the show playing the prominent role of Maggie since season 2 and turned down the offer that AMC gave her which was a "small bump" upgrade.

And although sources say she no longer seeks equal pay but a more substantia raise, they have yet to agree on anything.

It was reported that Lincoln and Reedus got paid a "significantly more" raise than their female colleagues, including Danai Gurira who plays Michonne and she too may exit after the next season as her rise to Hollywood fame soared thanks to her role in Black Panther

Even if AMC doesn't come to agreement, she's been receiving a lot of pilots to star in and she isn't obligated to stay with AMC.

Lauren will star in a pilot called Whiskey Cavalier alongside Scott Foley and ABC would allow her to return to a "limited capacity" on the Walking Dead to close out her storyline should she leave.

Yeah, this isn't Emmy Rossum wanting to be paid William H. Macy money on Shameless. Rossum had a legit point seeing as she had basically been the lead of the show for a few seasons and Macy had become a background character.

Yeah should of ended the series sooner. They're going to run into the problem where the cast either leaves due to disagreements or getting bigger roles in other projects. The writers will have to scramble to make sense of it all and the story barely has continuity now.

Fuck it, jump the shark and just hire new people to play the same character.

Norman Reedus is kind of a bigger deal on the show

Equal pay regardless of gender is important but you gotta ask is it really because you're a woman? If she was the main character and better known, she'd have a much stronger case.

Shouldn't be equally paid, and it's not an issue of sexism because Eugene, Ezekiel, Gabriel, and other prominent but not top tier males shouldn't be paid as much as Andrew Lincoln either

Yeah, I get that, but she has been an integral part of the show, whether fans like her or not, for a long ass time now. I just see both sides, is all I'm saying.

Fuck Negan though. I'm sick of him. One season was perfect. Now they are just going to drag him out. His character is just the Governor over again, and I'm sure they'll try to get just as much mileage out of him.

That's not to say he isn't a good character or that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is bad (honestly, he knocked it out of the park), but he's exactly the problem the show is facing now; they hit a home run with a character or story, and then decide to drag it out for waaaaaaay to fucking long until everyone hates it and it all ends with inevitable disappointment. They should just let that die and move on.

It's hard for me to gauge what any actor's pay should be on that show because I can't keep track of all their screentime. Seems to me like Andrew Lincoln should be making more than anyone, but beyond that, who knows...

That said, Cohan is probably top 5 in terms of acting ability on that show (for characters currently alive), she's been around since season 2, and the comics set her character up for an important arc in the very near future, so... in theory she deserves to be paid pretty well. But AMC notoriously killed off Frank Darabont's actor friends in seasons 2 and 3 so I dunno if this is a good move for her. She's got guts for trying. I hope it works out.

She was supposed to die in the comics by now iirc

These arent mutually exclusive. This is akin to a grunt demanding he make as much as the executive for no good reason, which is laughable.

Shes also not particularly bright, because no one cares about her. Shes old and barely a name. She has zero leverage and is bargaining against her livelihood. Bigger names have been fired for demanding less. What a spoiled moron.

Yeah, that's fair enough.

The more I think about it, though, the more I sort of get her argument. Whether you like her or not, she's an important part of the show and has been central in almost all of the major storylines. I'm not saying she is the star, but still, seven years of solid work and commitment to the show should earn her something. She's literally been on the show since the second season, and IIRC, Daryl wasn't even a regular until that season.

I tend to think there are enough minor characters that could be killed off that they wouldn't need to kill off a major faction leader. I mean, recent events should have sort of freed up some budget ... >_>

To be fair, I wasnt serious about firing Payton. I actually like his character. They also probably should not get rid of him because his storyline is still sort of new. I agree with you that there should be more budget available, either by getting rid of several fringe characters or because of what happened to Carl.

rick and daryl obviously should make way more than anyone else on the show. negan as well. maggie and michonne are probably the 2 that should be in like the 2nd tier wages. probably carol, ezekial, jesus in that range as well. probably a few others in like tier 2 or 3. then everyone else making much less.
