I dont disagree, and that's sort of my point. You aren't going to sway people to stop by only punishing those who cause a death.

Being remorseful shouldn't be a factor at all. People who are better actors shouldn't get lesser sentences than people who are worse.

Not intending to kill someone and drunk driving should be punished but 14 years is too much imo. Better would be something like 5 years, and put her through some serious programs to quit alcohol. Also, 10 years of probation.

Personally, I'm okay with her getting 14 years, if only for punishment and not rehabilitation. I don't have any studies, I don't have any logic to back up thinking its good for people to be punished as opposed to solely being rehabilitated, but that is how I feel. I don't wanna live in a world where someone gets a slap on the wrist for taking two lives and ruining more. I'm not okay with torture or anything cruel, but I do think punishments are deserved.

I do think rehabilitation should be a part of that of course, but I think jail time for the sake of punishing someone for committing a crime is a good thing.

It would be different if it was an accident that happened in an instant and was unavoidable, but driving under the influence isn't something that happens only during a moment. I wouldn't say she's an evil person for it, but she brought this on herself. Can't do the time, don't do the crime.

When someone kills an innocent, I don't care about punishment or rehabilitation.

I care about preventing the killer from taking more innocent lives.

Death penalty is the most effective prevention, but I feel that's too extreme in this case.

Life in prison would be acceptable to me.

At the very least, I believe the killer should be on probation for life, never allowed to drive ever again, and never allowed to drink ever again.
