Would you want someone to get a lenient sentence if they were "remorseful"?

22 y/o Former College Student, Shana Elliot was imprisoned to 14 YEARS in Prison after the drunk college student killed a father and his UNBORN child in a car crash!!

She got 7 years for each life she took as she was arrested in 2016 for it. Shana was dressed in a BIKINI when she was arrested and was disorientated when she was seen walking back and forth on the road as she told a cop "Kill me now, please".

The horrific crash claimed the lives of 23 y/o Fabian Guerrero Moreno and injured his 5 months pregnant wife, Kristin Nicole who lost her unborn child in the accident

Kristin said "You've shown you're incapable of remorse, i don't buy your crocodile tears, or the sweet little innocent girl they try to portray you to be. You're a monster, you're not sorry for what you've done, you're sorry because it landed you right there, you're sorry because you go caught"

Shana will also face 10 years probation for intoxication assaults in the case which is set at a later date if her sentences take place consecutively

She issued an apology with "I just want to say to the victim's family that i'm sorry from the deepest of my heart and i know that an apology doesn't do much, i know it doesn't, but i pray for forgiveness every day"

A cam video showed Sahan walking in a line in a sobriety test for a cop as she sobs and struggles to walk straight where she begged the officer to KILL HER following the fatal crash.

Her blood alcohol was .199 where the legal limit is 0.08. She admitted to drinking beer and liquor while floating down the driver at Texas State Tubes with riends that day

Doctors tried saving Kristin's baby by inducing labour but sadly the child was stillborn

Hours before the crash, the couple checked into Joe's Crab Shack as they celebrated Fabian's new US residency status

Would you want leniency in someone's sentence if they were 'remorseful"?

this is why i wont call an ambulance for reckless drivers. they only go on to harm other road users.

people need to stop acting on the good samaritan bullshit because most developed countries dont have a law that says you HAVE to assist in any way if you AREN'T involved in the accident. you cannot be held responsible for some darwin award deserving idiot that is putting every other road users life at risk.

If she intended to kill, I'd agree.

If I accidentally killed a couple of people, it wouldn't matter if I was caught or convicted or anything. You can't escape your own mind so I'd basically be in prison wherever I was.

She was hammered drunk. Extremely fucked up result but 14 years is eye for eye type shit. Maybe there's more too it and Kristin is correct that she shows no remorse. Maybe she has been acting like such and its obvious. But what use is it for Americans to pay for her to spend 14 years in prison? Is that how long it will take her to learn to not drunk drive? Would 10 years not accomplish the same result? 5? 3?

Do you really think college partiers are going to give a shit about manslaughter/murder sentencing time when they binge drink? The goal should always be to rehabilitate. In this case, correcting the mentality that put this woman in a situation that carelessly killed. And then adjusting her back into society as an adult that makes healthier decisions.

She got drunk and drove willfully. She willfully put other people's lives in danger. She knew the risks and took her chances. She killed a man who had so much of his life left to live, and an unborn baby who wasn't even given a chance at life. 14 years sounds very reasonable.

informing people that if a reckless driver slams into a tree, or drives into a river etc. in most developed countries, there is no law that says you have to even call for help.

think about that fact if you ever witness an accident where the only person involved is the reckless driver. you can feel good about yourself and pat yourself on the back for saving them. but it's on you when they go on to continue driving like idiots and take out innocent road users.

That doesn't make sense. Are you saying arresting them due to reckless driving won't deter them but them driving in a tree will?

im saying people should be aware of what they are legally required to do in an accident they aren't involved in. if arresting was a deterrent, there wouldn't be dumb fucks that still drive recklessly. between themselves and a tree, and themselves and a car carrying a family. what is your choice?

She was hammered drunk. Extremely fucked up result but 14 years is eye for eye type shit. Maybe there's more too it and Kristin is correct that she shows no remorse. Maybe she has been acting like such and its obvious. But what use is it for Americans to pay for her to spend 14 years in prison? Is that how long it will take her to learn to not drunk drive? Would 10 years not accomplish the same result? 5? 3?

What a joke. DUI is one of the most repeated offenses in the US. Go to a state like New Mexico or Texas. The penalties for DUI are a joke, hence you will see some people with 8+ DUI's. There was a story in a town I used to live in New Mexico where this guy just got out of prison for killing someone while intoxicated ended up killing another person while intoxicated again not more than a week after he got out of prison because of severely lax punishment.

Throw the book at offenders like this and get rid of these lax punishments and you have a better chance of dropping the DUI crimerate.

Sounds like your issue is with DUI cases that dont result in any harm

ALL DUI cases have a high probability for harm.

I dont disagree, and that's sort of my point. You aren't going to sway people to stop by only punishing those who cause a death.

Possibility. Not probability. Otherwise MOST cases would result in harm.
